Grade 11- 5 points
.
-September 2014
Dear students,
Welcome to English class. We believe that you should fully understand what our requirements
and expectations are. Therefore, please read the following information carefully:
ENGLISH LESSONS
All students will have 5 lessons per week. Students are expected to attend each and
every lesson.
BOOKS REQUIRED:
1. Bagrut Plus for E (A.E.L). (You will be required to bring this book to EVERY
class)
2. Literature for 5 Points – Option 1 (ECB). (You will be asked to bring this book
when required.)
3. Cry Freedom (Book Report #1)
4. The Wave (Book Report #2)
5. Approved Dictionary (Optional) – You will NOT be permitted to share dictionaries
during exams.
a. ‫אנגלי החדש המקיף המילון‬-‫עברי‬/‫עברי‬-‫אנגלי‬, ‫)זילברמן שמעון( ד"וממ 'ממ‬
b. OXFORD ENGLISH-ENGLISH-HEBREW STUDENT'S DICTIONARY (OXFORD)
NOTEBOOKS:
In order to enhance the learning atmosphere and achievements, improve your writing
and reading comprehension we believe that all the material should be documented in a
notebook/folder. We suggest that you keep a separate notebook for literature. It will be a
lot easier to keep all the literature material together, especially when you need to review
the literary texts for the final Module F exam in the twelfth grade.
BAGRUT
All 5-point 11th grade students will take Bagrut Module E during the spring/summer of
2015. Module E consists of one reading comprehension and one listening
comprehension part. Students will NOT be permitted to complete Module E during the
2015 winter Bagrut.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Weekly Quizzes: In preparation for the Bagrut, students should be prepared to do weekly
Module E quizzes upon the teachers request. These quizzes will begin later in the year and
continue until the date of the Bagrut. Weekly quizzes will be calculated into the grade given
for Module E.

Book Reports: All 5pt students will be required to complete two book reports during their
11th grade year. Both book reports will be completed electronically with an open book. The
first book report will be on “Cry Freedom” (AEL Publications). The second book report will
be on “The Wave” (AEL Publications).

Literature: This year all 5-point students will complete three of the compulsory literature
pieces as part of the National Literature Program. Each literary piece will be studied in depth
and tested. All grades relating to these pieces of literature WILL be a part of your Module F
school grade. Please note that you will NOT be permitted to make up any missing literature
grades during the following year.

Project: All 11th grade 5-point students will be required to research and complete an in-class
group project during the course of the year. More information as to topics, dates and other
specifics will be given later in the year. You will be examined on your project during The
Oral Bagrut exam with an external examiner during the course of next year.

Participation/Preparation: Attitude, attendance and general class etiquette are integrated
into your grade. Hence it is important to realize that bringing your books, notebooks,
reading books, dictionaries as well as attending all the classes, doing your homework
and handing in work on time will affect your grade for better or worse.
GRADE BREAKDOWN – Please see grade breakdown handout.
EXAM WITH CD’S
Students who are entitled to use CD’s during exams must bring 15 CD’s to their English teacher
by 23/9. You may be asked to buy more CD’s at some point during the year if needed.

IMPORTANT DEPARTMENT RULES1. It is your responsibility to make up any quizzes/tests/writing assignments/book reports. In
general, you must be prepared to make up for a missed quiz or test during the next class or contact
your teacher before you show up to class if you have a problem Assignment / quizzes and exams can
only be made up if the absence is justified.
2. When absent it is the STUDENT’S responsibility to contact classmates to find out what has been
missed. In cases of uncertainty or doubt contact your teacher by email.
3. No Cell phones! Keep them silent in your school bags.
4. Each student must have access to his/her SCHOOL email. Throughout the year you will receive
important information, notes and more by email only. There will also be online assignments in
which you will need your school email address and login information in order to access and
complete the tasks. Please note that the lack of school email access will NOT serve as a valid excuse
for the failure to know important information or complete online assignments.
If you do not have access to your school email account you must contact David Moshe by the end of
the second week of school so that he can reset your password for you.
If you have any requests, comments, messages, interesting pieces of information
concerning our English class, you are invited to share them with us. You are always
welcome to approach us in a friendly manner at school or send us emails.
