Bears, Wolves and Foxes Summer 1

This has been a very short but busy half term for the Bears, Wolves and Foxes. It all started rather mysteriously when the children were taken to the Activity Room for a surprise visitor.

On arrival, it turned out that the visitor was none other than Jezzo, a magician! Children and teachers alike were amazed by a range of tricks including creating a hat out of ripped paper and escaping from padlocked chains in just one second! Our amazement soon turned into panicked squeals as he unveiled a new tricks that he had been working on… Slicing his arm into pieces with steel plates! Thankfully he had obviously used the correct spell, and we were all very relieved to see his arm still in one piece at the end!

However, the tension was not ended then. Despite believing himself to be a safe audience member, Mr

Pettit was whisked to the front and given a large box to wear on his head. The children were then forced to watch, with a mixture of fear and anxiety as Jezza pushed no less than twelve KNIVES into Mr Pettit’s head! Luckily he survived to tell the tale…

In Literacy this half term we have been studying film narrative, using ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s

Stone.’ We have looked at features ranging from ‘The

Four Cs’ (Composition, Camera, Colour and

Character) to ‘The Four Ss’ (Setting, Sound, Symbol and Story.) A particular highlight of this subject was the unexpected visit from none other than Harry Potter himself, accompanied by Ron Weasley and Hermione

Granger! The children interrogated the magical trio, who happily discussed their feelings about starting at Hogwarts, including their views on each other!

Year 5 and 6 mathematicians have been challenging themselves by using their known number facts to create their own word problems to create a given answer. The children had to use

ratio to work out the number of various disgusting ingredients in some magic potions so gruesome that they can even make children disappear!

We have had a big focus on art this half term, as the children have been working independently on different art projects. This has involved researching an artist, artistic genre or common artistic subject, experimenting with different materials to create the chosen effect and creating a final piece.

Despite now entering the final half term of the year, and the final half term of primary school for our Year

6, we still have many exciting times ahead of us. The

Year 6 residential trip promises to provide some exhilarating adventures (as well as midnight feasts!) and the teachers are preparing to let out their competitive side!

Year 6 will also be preparing for their transition to secondary school this half term, and we are looking forward to both welcoming staff and pupils from

Cambourne Village College to Jeavons Wood and to visiting there ourselves for a few action packed days.

Both Year 5 and Year 6 will be working alongside Years 3 and 4 this half term practicing and polishing their performances for our Summer production… watch this space for more news soon…

We would like to wish all Year 5 and 6 pupils, and their parents, a happy and restful half term.

Mr Emery, Miss Gleek and Mr Pettit.
