The Live Well Sioux Falls Coalition, a group of diverse businesses, organizations and individuals, is instrumental in guiding our efforts to improve community health and wellness. Working together, this coalition completed a Community Health Needs Assessment and conducted a resident survey to gather information about health in our community. This work was presented in the 2012 Community Health Status Report. (available online at www.livewellsiouxfalls.org ) This publication summarizes information about the health and well-being of the residents of Sioux Falls and presents strategies for providing a healthier community. It is intended to guide the efforts of the many programs and services currently provided in our community as well as inspire new programs that focus on the most critical needs of Sioux Falls residents. Why is this work important? 1 in 2 adults suffers from chronic disease. 7 of 10 deaths in our nation are caused by chronic disease. Due to chronic disease, a baby born today may have a shorter life expectancy than that of its parents. Chronic disease is largely preventable March 2015 Donors September 1, 2014 to February 28, 2015 Donate Anonymous Walter, Judy Armitage, Gerald WalMart TODAY! NAMI in the Lobby’s mission is to provide outreach and engage individuals receiving services at the ABHC. Trained NAMI Sioux Falls volunteers have a designated space in the Light Court and are able to provide information on NAMI and other local mental health resources. NAMI in the Lobby volunteers have lived experience in the mental health system and know just how stressful living with mental illness can be. By offering smiles, compassion, information, and hope, visitors are introduced to valuable resources and supports that provide much needed relief in these stressful times. To get this up-and-running we are holding a training for volunteers on Saturday March 28th from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. At the training you will learn much more about how you can be a valuable resource to others who are experiencing life with mental illness. To register call the NAMI Sioux Falls office at 605-610-7226 or email info@namisiouxfalls.org Preregistration by March 20th is required to assure having enough materials for each participant.
