Preliminary Lab – Types of Evidence
Purpose: To identify types of evidence found at a crime
scene.
Introduction: A dead body was found in the woods by a
random hiker. It was found a little ways off the hiking trail
in a hole with human bones inside it. The dead body was
reported by the hiker who had blood on his hand and
clothes. The hiker wears size 10 shoes while the dead
body wears size 9.
Evidence: CS Sketch on back of page
Procedure: List Evidence numbered on CS Sketch then
classify each as much as possible.
a. Direct or indirect
b. Class or individual
c. Transient, pattern, conditional, transfer, or
associative
Example: Gravel – Indirect, class, transfer
Conclusion: Summarize what you think happened
based on the evidence.
