The NROC Project

Educators moving education forward

A national K-20 cooperative project to impact college & career readiness

The NROC Project (NROC) is a community-guided, non-profit effort focused on new models of digital content development, distribution, and use. We are leaders, learners, and teachers who believe in open and equal access to education and the power of media to personalize learning.

Together, we can bring the best of education and technology to our member institutions and the world.

The NROC Project is a community-guided, nonprofit project funded by The William and Flora

Hewlett Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and most importantly by NROC members across the country.

We are education leaders from state and system institutions nationwide that represent more than 6 million U.S. students from middle school to college. We are focused on college and career readiness, one of our nation’s biggest challenges, and we’re building bridges across K-12, higher-ed, government, and business. We know many people are struggling to find their path.

Barriers in math and English can prevent students from reaching their full potential. Together, we’re building content and applications to impact student success.

Why you should get Involved

Join a community of users guiding development of high-end educational resources with a business model to reduce costs for everyone. You get access to content and resources, such as:

 Institutional use of NROC’s course library for LMS integration, including Algebra 1 and

Developmental Math (Developmental English coming 2015)

 Web-based applications such as HippoCampus, customized to your state and system standards (EdReady coming 2014)

Make the most of membership

 You can get more out of the network by participating. We believe participation drives quality, improves access, and empowers us all.

 Utilize and adapt NROC resources across a range of use cases from blended learning to flipped classrooms to fully online courses.

 Attend our annual meeting. Unlike a typical conference where experts lecture to attendees, ours is a unique opportunity to contribute, connect, and influence our priorities.

 Attend NROC webinars, Twitter chats, and events to hear other members’ innovations and share ideas.

What does NROC stand for?

“NROC” started as the National Repository of Online Courses. Now we are much more. NROC is emblematic of an approach defined by four shared beliefs:

NETWORK - Institutions nationwide benefit from working together.

RESOURCES - Educators are empowered by high-quality, multimedia content and applications.

OPEN - Membership keeps costs low for institutions, and free for individuals.

COLLEGE & CAREER - We’re committed to helping students pursue academic and life success.

“Our kids absolutely love the new format of NROC Math. NROC has been a huge resource and it’s been a huge resource and it’s been very valuable to our program.”

RYAN CRETE, Grand River Prep High School, MI

“When we reviewed the NROC course offerings available to us, we were blown away! We use the word edu-taining because the materials are both educational and entertaining. That is a big gap to cross especially when you have adult learners and students that cross over from high school to the community college level.”

SHANA NEELY, Central Piedmont Community College, NC

How much does NROC membership cost?

Institutions pay $1 per student per year for unlimited use of NROC resources.

NROC staff

Our organization began in 2003 as a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and

Education (MITE). Our job is to advance student achievement by listening to the network’s needs, facilitating implementation, encouraging engagement, and delivering tools for everyone to review, use and adapt.

Our Vision

“If we can rebuild our public education system with personalized learning at its core, we can make education more equitable and help keep our economy competitive in the world market.”

“As a group we can pool our resources to create and maintain the stuff we want. It’s ours. This approach makes it affordable, adaptable and appropriate for our needs.”
