Two references must be included with your application by the application deadline. These
should include at least one reference from an academic staff member at the institution where
you have completed your most recent degree.

Referees should indicate their academic and professional role, how long they have known
you, and how they would rate your abilities in comparison to your peers. They should also
provide a reasoned assessment of your prospects as a postgraduate researcher. Academic
referees should also include a statement about your position in your class year-group (based
on currently available QCA data or equivalent) and, where degrees have not been awarded,
they should attempt to predict the likely level of award (e.g. 1st, 2.1 etc., or equivalent).

 Why do you wish to pursue an MSc Nursing/Midwifery programme?
 What skills do you have that would prepare you for research studies/work?
 Highlight your strengths in research and outline your developmental needs in research
 How do you see your career unfolding, after you have completed your postgraduate
degree?

 Describe the background to your proposed research area (please provide including
references, where pertinent to the published literature).
 Clearly outline the main aims/purpose of the research.
 If possible, describe the likely research methodologies you will employ to address
