Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championship Raleigh, NC The 2014 Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championship, hosted by NCSU 4-H Horse Program, was held July 29-August 2, 2014. The SC delegation was represented by 27 educational contest projects and 49 horse show exhibitor projects. The SC 4-H Horse program had the best collective finish in this event that we’ve ever had. Every educational contest competitor from SC won an award for team and/or individual events. There were 228 individual educational contest competitors at this year’s event. Champion Teams Overall = 2 Reserve Champion Teams Overall = 1 3rd place Teams Overall = 1 Top 10 teams Overall = 3 Champion Individual Overall = 2 Res Champ Individual Overall = 2 Third High Individual Overall = 2 Top Ten Individual Overall = 5 Hippology – Champion Team (out of 16 teams) and 9th high team overall. SC was Champion in exam phase, champion in stations phase, 5th in judging phase, and 3rd in team problem, which culminated in the Champion Team overall finish. Our other SC team was 10th in stations phase and 5th in team problem. Individually, Hailey Mundell – Lexington Co. – was 3rd in exam phase, 5th in stations phase, 5th in the judging phase, and Reserve Champion high individual overall; Kristy Waldrep – Lee Co. - was Champion in the exam phase, 4th in stations phase, and 3rd high overall individual; Hannah Steele – Chester Co. – was 8th in exam phase, Reserve Champion in stations phase and 4th high individual overall; and Ashtyn Kinney – Greenwood Co. – was 7th in judging phase. Horse Bowl – Reserve Champion Team (narrowly defeated by 1 point in the championship round) and 4th high team (out of 15 teams). Kristy Waldrep – Lee Co. – was Reserve Champion Individual; Hannah Steele – Chester Co. – was 4th; Hailey Mundell – Lexington Co. – was 6th; and Julia Tenhover – Richland Co. – was 9th high individual. Horse Team Presentation – Ashtyn Kinney – Greenwood Co. – and Ashley McCarter – York Co. – were the Champion Team Horse Public Speaking – Hannah Kinney – Charleston Co. - was 3rd high individual. Horse Individual Presentation – Estera Leavelle – Charleston Co. – was 9th high individual. Horse Judging – 10th place Halter Division team and 10th place in Oral Reasons (out of 17 teams with a set of greenhorns). Individually, Jenna Beare – Anderson Co. – won 5th high individual in Oral Reasons. Horse Show – There are 7 riding disciplines represented at this Championship event, which is the only Regional 4-H horse show in the country – there is no national 4-H Horse Show. There were 367 horse/rider combinations at this event with 12 of the 13 states in the Southeastern 4-H region represented.
