Womens and Newborns Network Co-Lead Position
After devoting seven years of leadership and support to the Womens and Newborns Health
Network, Dr Janet Hornbuckle is stepping aside as Co-Lead to focus on other priorities within the
Women and Newborn Health Service.
The WA Department of Health, is seeking to recruit a suitably experienced and motivated clinician
as Co-lead for the Womens and Newborns Health Network. The successful applicant will continue
this valuable work and be responsible for leading and championing the priorities of the Womens
and Newborns Health Network. They will be supported by the existing Co-Lead of the Network,
Associate Professor Graeme Boardley and Health Networks Branch.
The Womens and Newborns Health Network provides the structure for people to come together to
connect and share knowledge and improve on the access and inclusion of women to quality health
services. This includes:


raising awareness of the health needs of women and newborns through collaborative
stakeholder engagement and planning;
clarifying the priorities for the Womens and Newborns Health Network and address these
through projects, collaborations and partnerships;
The principle aims of the Womens and Newborns Health Network are to:
 Foster a broader understanding of the health needs of Women and newborns and their right
to accessing effective services and care.
 Improve the quality, accessibility and coordination of services necessary to meet the health
needs of women and newborns.

WNHN website.
The next phase of the Womens and Newborns Health Network will be to build on the current
projects in supporting the network to achieve its goals of 2015 and 2016 (refer to WNHN website –
http://www.healthnetworks.health.wa.gov.au/network/womens.cfm – for further information).
Co-Lead attributes
Co-Leads will have experience in and/or a keen interest in developing the following:
 Leadership and broad base of connections across health.
 Working collaboratively and forming partnerships across a diverse range of stakeholders
including families and carers, in both government and non-government organisations.
 An understanding of state, national and international issues on women’s and newborns
health.
 A record of achievement in participating in or leading successful reform activities addressing
women’s and newborns health issues in WA
 Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the delivery of health services and a high
level awareness of national and international best practice in and around service delivery.
 A record of achieving the successful delivery of health service and policy outcomes and
outputs in a timely manner.
Appointment process
The successful applicant:
 will be appointed according to their equivalent professional award by negotiation for up to 8
hours per week.
 Personnel from within the Department of Health must seek approval from their Head of
Department prior to submitting an application
 Co-Leads contracts are for a period of two years.
