PhD Student
Mr. Yang Gao completed two Masters in UCC and is now doing a PhD jointly with the
Centre and the Business Information Systems (BIS) School at UCC. He is helping with our
databases and statistical analyses.
A brief summary of his work and progress to date is provided below:
Mr. Yang Gao
Yang Gao is doing a joint PhD between Business Information Systems (BIS) and the Centre
for Gerontology and Rehabilitation in UCC. His research uses Data Mining technologies and
statistics methodology to analyse clinical data bases. The research focuses on the Alzheimer’s
Disease (AD) to support the decision making in the care of AD patients, on the medicine
development and patients’ treatment.
Yang has a Masters of Science in Applied Science (Software Development for Computer
Networks) (2006 - 2007) and a research Masters in Business Information Systems (BIS).His
Master’s thesis was on mining inpatients records in hospitals to predict their length of stay
(2007 - 2008). To date he has analysed several large clinical databases and we are currently
preparing papers for publication based on these data sets. They mainly deal with factors that
predict length of stay in hospital.
