A3 (£15,207-£15,941 pro rata)
37 hours per week (term time only +15 days)
This role provides a technician support service to the Design Technology
and Art departments.
General
Responsibilities
It involves preparing materials and equipment, cleaning and maintaining
a wide range of resources in all areas of Technology & Art.
In Technology materials used include wood, metal, plastics, electronics,
food, textiles and graphics. It also involves the use and maintenance of
equipment and machinery associated with them.
Specific
Responsibilities
This post holder must have awareness of and observe health and safety
standards in addition to meeting the requirements of the subjects and
classes. Provision and maintenance of an ordered and tidy working
environment is essential, as is close working relationships with staff in
the Technology and Art Departments.
Specific Responsibilities in the Technology/Art Departments include:
Daily:
Prepare materials – wood, metal, plastic, fabric, food ingredients, textile
materials.
Prepare & maintain equipment – glue guns, line bender, vacuum former,
vinyl cutter, sewing machines, irons and ironing boards, food processors
etc.
Prepare teaching resources – photocopying etc.
Assist in practical classes and carry out demonstrations when required.
Help in class including cleaning up and tidying away for lessons
Put dish cloths and tea towels through washing machine and dryer.
Put soiled cooking utensils through dishwasher.
Open up power tool cupboard and ensure all batteries are fully charged
for cordless tools. Check used equipment is replaced.
Repair any damaged equipment as soon as possible after being reported.
Daily - General tidying and assistance with organisation of classroom
resources.
Annual - Stock checking.
Weekly - Administrative duties eg data input, production of notices for
display etc.
Assist with displays of student artwork.
Daily - Preparation of resources for lessons, including clay preparation
and the recycling of clay.

Daily - Assist with the preparation and maintenance of classroom
resources (eg scanning and printing examples of artwork).
Weekly:
Maintenance check on all machines (log and sign off).
Clear and tidy away materials, tidy preparation areas.
Check state of equipment, benches, tables – clean and maintain as
necessary.
Check and clean hobs, ovens, fridges and sinks.
Clean whiteboards throughout department.
Top up washing up liquid bottles and glue bottles.
Check equipment drawers/trays and replenish consumables.
Check and clean filters on dishwashers, tumble dryer, extractors and
vacuum cleaners.
Half termly:
Monitor stock levels and advise Curriculum Leader accordingly.
Receive, check and put away deliveries.
Service heavily used equipment/tools.
Empty and clean extractors/sinks.
Clean equipment drawers and cupboards in food room.
Check and clean sewing machines and irons.
Clean and tidy all stock rooms, workshops.
(Collect resources from local firms who do not deliver – cushion fillings,
pizza boxes, fabric etc).
Termly:
Check and sharpen all tools and equipment as necessary.
Replace sanding discs, bandsaw blades, planer blades etc.
Repair or replace bench hooks, vice jaws, bench tops.
Annually:
Replace/repair bench tops and edging workshops.
Check and update equipment inventory.
Ensure all electrical items are available for PAT testing.
In relation to health & Ensure the maintenance of healthy and safe working environment
safety
through:
Carrying out risk assessments for technician activities
Actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of both
health and safety procedures;
Ensure safe storage and maintenance of machinery/equipment and
resources and responding to actual or potential hazards;
Contributing to the design, development and maintenance of specialist
resources, including D&T machinery and equipment;

Keep up to date with the current procedures and practices through
continuing professional development;
Other

Input pupil data into school data system as directed by teaching staff to
enable pupil progress to be monitored
Uphold and make an active contribution to the school’s Catholic ethos in
line with the Catholic Education Service Contract.
Undertake any responsibilities commensurate with the scale and
responsibility of the post as directed by the Headteacher.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all
children in line with school policy and national guidelines.
Follow school policy in relation to all prescribed areas.
