The Department has a very strong academic record. Last year:
 98% of candidates passed GCSE (67% with a grade A or A*).
 92% of entry get A/A*/A** grades at GCSE further maths.
 54 candidates achieved grade A at AS Level with 70% achieving at least a
grade C.
 100% pass rate at A level with 82% at least a grade B. 40 students got an A*
grade.
 66% of further maths students achieve A or A*
 We regularly have successful applicants to Oxbridge.
All members of the Department are encouraged to contribute positively to its
development.
We are proud of our induction programme for new members of staff, whether NQTs
or experienced teachers, and Staff Development is a priority whether provided inhouse or by external sources.
The Department is housed in a relatively new building. All rooms are kitted out with
an Interactive Whiteboard and each member of staff has a laptop computer.
KS3
Mathematics is taught in form groups in Year 7, whilst in Years 8 and 9, the four
forms are split up into four equally sized sets according to ability. Each form/set has
6 one hour lessons per fortnight. We use the Collins Framework textbooks and are
currently using them in all 8 and 9 lessons. Year 7 follows the new national
curriculum using Pearson Delta 1 textbooks.
KS4
The four forms are currently split up into 6 sets. We have two top sets, two middle
sets and two lower sets. The top sets have about 26 pupils, the middle sets 22 and
the lower sets 16. The top sets take GCSE Higher Level Mathematics and a GCSE in
Further Mathematics. The other sets take GCSE Higher Level Mathematics with one
a couple of students being entered at Foundation Level. Each set has 6 one hour
periods per fortnight. We currently use the Edexcel GCSE Higher Textbooks
published by Pearson. We use the GCSE Further Maths Practice Book published by
Collins. The GCSE exams taken are delivered by Edexcel and the GCSE Further Maths
exam by AQA.

KS5
Sixth Form Mathematics consists of courses using the Edexcel Modular units. There
are 2 sets of Double Maths and 7 sets of Single Maths in Year 12 and 2 sets of
Further Maths and 4 sets of Single Maths in Year 13.
Double Mathematicians take A Level mathematics at the end of Year 12 by doing C1,
C2, C3, C4, M1 and S1. They take A Level Further Mathematics during Year 13 by
taking FP1, FP2, FP3, M2, M3 and D1. They have 18 one hour periods per fortnight.
Single Mathematicians take two years over the same A Level mathematics course as
the Double students. They take the units C1, C2 and M1 in Year 12 to gain an AS
Level in Mathematics and the other 3 units during Year 13. They have 9 one hour
lessons per fortnight. All units are studied using the Heinemann textbooks.
Each set is taught “Pure” and “Applied” separately by two different members of
staff. All members of the Department teach some A Level Mathematics.
We enter the most able students (i.e. top sets) for the various Maths Challenges and
Team Challenges provided by UKMT and have frequently won the Regional Rounds
to progress to the National Finals. We also have students who enter the Maths
Olympiad.
