Description
Kyle: Wanted to do something that recognized all types of cancer and want to
benefit locally. Fundraisers to buy items that people fighting cancer need, ex.
Shampoo, comfort things. Want to have series of events for all types of cancer,
but changed to one bigger event, carnival. Other organizations involved main
idea: all types of campus awareness and group awareness and people here.
Questions
Connor: Advertising plan?
Kyle: Word of mouth, hot chocolate sale, pancake sale, working with RA’s to do
grilled cheese. Other events, a members parents run printing so they donate
posters
Lindsy: Where do you hang posters?
Kyle: Posters in designated spots on campus and shops around town
Lindsy: Hospital?
Kyle: Not sure, but Stephanie has worked with hospital, good idea. Trying to
work on table tents
Connor: What groups do you have lined up for event?
Kyle: Don’t know yet but 8-10 groups and other halls said they wanted to have
tables with table poster that talks about cancer or treatment. Want a question
and it can be like a scavenger hunt answering questions. Half board about
cancer education, half board for themselves
Nathan: Superior edge for hours maybe? Think there is a good list of volunteers
Kyle: We fill TV room every week, have Facebook group for members and
updates
Connor: Talked to Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center?
Kyle: One of the people that works there was going to be advisor so they are
aware
Mary Brundage: Do people win prizes? What about food?
Kyle: Not going to have popcorn machine because Vandement wouldn’t allow
cotton candy or popcorn. Have to make snacks before hand
Lindsy: Fundraising at event, donation based?
Kyle: Yes, donation based jars. But we know proceeds go back to SFC
Nathan: Only problem it might be deceiving. People might think it’s going
towards cancer, but it’s going back to us.
Kyle: Make sure it is known money is not going to cancer
Lindsy: Could they say if you want to donate go somewhere else
Nathan: No problems, little grey, but no issues
Michael: What if Superior Edge or other groups collect money and can put it
toward cancer?
Nathan: No matter who is helping it is still part of the event within itself, best
option maybe brochure that says how to donate
Connor: Any idea how many tables or groups
Kyle: Have it set up so up to 50 groups can be there, with event they gave us
discount
Jacob: Numbers not adding up, bolds add up to about $90 more
Changing event supplies to $1494.74
New budget: $2,255.34
Discussion
Connor: Like it
Most people like
Connor: Table tent good
Nathan: Since new group it seemed like big event, but they have put in a lot of
research and work into this. Think it will be successful. If students hear about it.
Just get the word out good working with halls. Any issues?
No
Connor: Motion to approve Cancer Awareness Committee for the Cancer
Awareness Carnival in amount of $2,255.34
Jacob: Second
