Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed term contract position as a
Research Assistant within Centre for Chromosome Biology at the National University of Ireland,
Galway. The duration of this fixed term contract post will be immediately available with a project end
date of 31st December 2014.
Post details: A research assistant in biochemistry and molecular biology is required to support the
PML consortium-funded research programme. The research programme is primarily concerned with
the biochemical and molecular biological characterisation and regulation of human polyomavirus
JCV infections. This work will be carried out as part of a wider PML research programme

Essential Qualifications / Experience:
 B.Sc. / M.Sc. in biochemistry, molecular / cell biology or equivalent
 Molecular biology: cloning, recombinant protein expression and purification.
 Immunoblotting, monoclonal antibody experience.
 Mammalian tissue culture
 Candidates must be computer literate.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience:
 PhD in biochemistry, molecular / cell biology or equivalent
 Student project supervision

Salary: €21,865 - €22,715 per annum. (Public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will
