Do Some Good as You Move Out

Heart of Texas Goodwill, Keep America Beautiful Partner With Texas A&M for

Give and Go Move-Out Donation Drive

— Nearly three million students live in on-campus housing in 2,100 colleges and universities across the country. In the rush to move out at the end of the academic year, many students discard clothing, electronics, books and furniture

— sending tens of thousands of pounds of usable goods to the landfills from each school.

Even on college campuses with existing collection programs, up to half of recoverable items are still lost — but there is an alternative. It’s called Give and Go.

Operated through a partnership between Keep America Beautiful and Goodwill Industries

, Give and Go is a program that helps colleges create or improve existing end-of-year move-out collection programs.

The Give and Go program is a convenient, hassle-free way for students to donate unwanted items at the end of the school year. Not only will they keep their stuff out of the local landfills, but by donating to Goodwill, they can help strengthen the local community.

Since its founding in 2013, the Give and Go program has demonstrated the tremendous positive impact that partnerships with campuses can have in local communities. These partnerships benefit the environment by keeping useful items out of landfills, and they help fund vital job training, career placement and other Goodwill

services.

“Let’s say you have a lamp that you were using in your dorm room this school year, but you don’t need it next year,” said Dan Nisely, CEO of Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries. “By donating, we can put it up for sale in one of our retail stores, and the money we collect for selling that item goes directly into creating jobs. It’s easy for you, it’s good for the environment, and it helps the community.”

Donation collection will take place May 8-13, 2015 from 8:00am to 4:30pm at Appelt/Mosher

Drive, Parking Lot 32 by Haas and The Gardens.
