Field Ecology of ECA Nature Trail
Introduction: The purpose of this report is to collect observational data on the
ECA nature trail as part of studying the Environmental Science of the trail.
Materials: list anything we used
Method: Explain what we did
Results: Observation of Abiotic and Biotic Factors at the ECA Nature Trail
Abiotic:
 Rock:
o Description of how rocks are found, how they affect the environment
o Habitat
 Insects, worms…
 Dark:
o Cool, Wet, protection from predators
o Stabilizer against erosion ?(hypothesis)
o Too many rocks are hard for plant roots to grow ?(hypothesis)
 Sunlight:
o Description
o Explain how it could affect ecosystem (all biotic and abiotic)
 Water
o Description
o Explain how it could affect ecosystem (all biotic and abiotic)
 Temperature
o Description
o Explain how it could affect ecosystem (all biotic and abiotic)
 Garbage
o Description
o Explain how it could affect ecosystem (all biotic and abiotic)
 Long time to break down
 Contain toxic (poison) chemicals: kill or harm
o Dirt and water
 Soil (dirt)
 Humidity
o Description: water vapor (gas) in the air
 Extra-water to plants and animals
o Explain how it could affect ecosystem (all biotic and abiotic)

 Dead Wood
o Description
 Why?: tree sick, no rain, fire, natural life span
o Explain how it could affect ecosystem (all biotic and abiotic)
 Habitat for fungus and beetles (decomposers  soil)
Biotic:
o Insects
o Spiders
o ants
o mosquitoes
o butterfly
o Fungus
o Small mushrooms, white fungus on the dead tree
o Birds
o Plants
o Vines, add more detail of the types of plants
