Animal Facility Use and Training Checklist SOP

This is to certify that __________________________________________________
has completed training in the use and welfare of animals in research.
Pre-Safety Training Requirements: Complete before doing ARC/Zebrafish Safety Training
1) Go to online to CITI training at (https://www.citiprogram.org/default.asp?language=english).
a) Register at site using a username and password unique for this site. For institutional
affiliation, choose University of Maryland, School of Medicine, which is the home of our
IACUC.
b) Complete the 26 modules of CITI curriculum entitled “Working With The IACUC”, (CR#
7665808: Investigators, Staff and Students Gradebook). To pass this course you must
complete all the elective modules with a combined score of 80.
c) Print out the IACUC Curriculum Completion Report when finished and bring to ARC Safety
Training meeting with ARC Manager. (See Step 4).
2) Review the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals” located at
(http://grants.nih.gov/grants/olaw/Guide-for-the-Care-and-Use-of-Laboratory-Animals.pdf)
a) Specifically, the sections for Aquatic Animals, pages 77 - 88. Initials_____________
3) Review the Laboratory Animal Exposure Risk Assessment Program (LAERAP) at
(http://www.medschool.umaryland.edu/IACUC/education_laerap.asp)
a) Enroll in the program by following the instructions at the section on this site entitled: HOW DO
I ENROLL IN THE LAERAP? Initials______________
4) Schedule an ARC/Zebrafish training meeting with ARC Manager. (Takes about 30 minutes).
(ARC Manager: Steven Rodgers, rodgers@umbc.edu, 410-234-8819.)
5) Print out this Checklist and bring to the scheduled meeting with ARC Manager.
6) After all training has been completed, ARC manager will sign the Badge Access form for
completion of Animal Facility Use and Training Checklist SOP.
ARC Safety Training: Before starting, must have completed the above items. Training to be
conducted by ARC Manager (Steven Rodgers, rodgers@umbc.edu, 410-234-8819.)
or Designee (Chris Tollini, ctollini@umbc.edu).
1) Entrance/egress procedures
2) Basic safety and physical hazard awareness
3) Animal health/safety issues
4) Secure signature of ARC Director (Yonathan Zohar) or designee (Kevin Sowers /John
Stubblefield) on Badge Access form.
