The Minutes from the August Booster Meeting were approved with revisions to be included on the website.

Rich Bacherman reported a glitch in jooners. E mails can’t be added or subtracted easily. We might have to switch to another list serve to get volunteers for concessions and other events.

Treasurer ’s Report by Karen Smith

The report shows changes since start. There was one bad check from camp so there's a $75 differential in income and expenses for the camp pass-through.

Membership is down. Last year there were 145 booster passes sold and 54 memberships, this year there have been 166 passes but only 41 memberships.

The packet was submitted to an accountant to prepare 990 Form which is due

11/15/12.

The $10,000 balance does not include the pay pals balance of $712.70 which should be coming.

The restitution for spirit wear theft is being handled through a restorative justice process. Six students were involved and so far one has paid. A probation officer is handling it and $2000 should be coming in. The rest owe at 90 days. The

checks, made out to the Boosters, will be given to Brian who will get them to the

Boosters.

Turf committee - Blake Smith .

The grant from the U.S Soccer Federation window opens 10/1 and closes 10/29. The grant is for a single entity, so Stuart can't pair up. Blake would like help from Brian to prepare the grant. Brian has worked with TJ because they are in a similar position and have discussed the issue of turf fields with Penny Gross. TJ has data on where the turf fields are located in the county. There is a turf committee in the county that Blake plans to link up with as well. FCPS may have rules against putting corporate logos on the field. Parents, who have experience with successful grant writing, can look over the grant proposal. We need complete funding before FCHs will start the process. Parks and rec also has grants available. We need to show FCPS that we are serious about getting funding.

Volunteers Needed – Donna Carter

Getting parent e-mails: We have field hockey, cheer, golf and cross country team parent reps to get emails from parents so they can be added to jooners. A newsletter that used to be posted on the websites will be sent directly to parents via email for a more personal touch.

There was a suggestion to tell parents which teams gets Booster money to show parents that their children’s team are benefitting from the Boosters as a way to get them to help.

If coaches do not help the Boosters get parent volunteers by passing along emails, it will be included in their evaluations at the end of the season.

Most of the Booster money comes from concession (approx. $2200 was made at the last varsity football game). Football has the most athletes, yet football parents are not helping in concessions stands (no jv or freshmen parents helped at

Varsity game and no volunteers signed up for JV game so concession stand was not open). 24 volunteers are needed to run the concession stand at a game, the last game only had 10. Volleyball and JV field hockey have a good system where

JV parents work at varsity games and varsity parents work at JV games.

We can access concussion list for emails.

There was a long discussion about how to best collaborate with all the other

Booster organizations and teams in their fund raisers. The PTAs wants to see all the events on one centralized calendar so all the organizations know what the others are planning.

Sponsorships :

So far the Boosters have made about $3000 on sponsorship. We need someone to handle this. The Fall program is done but there will be winter and spring programs. Banners are available for $ 500

Team parents should e-mail Donna their team e-mails so she can send info for senior ads. The banners have patches for multiple-sports athletes.

Spirit events ideas/fundraising :

Wear pjs for $1

Lock up or pay $5 to get out.

Polar bear plunge

Movie night

Sell pumpkins at haunted house?

Best seat in the house for basketball games. Free popcorn and seat on floor.

Silent auction lots of planning and volunteers

It was suggested that we set up the grill for the Raider Rumble which is an all- day event.

Some HS have class year painted on the bleachers. Needs warm Saturday and some prep. Madison and Lake Braddock Robinson use regular latex paint.

Brian will check to see if the seniors can put hand prints on the concession stand.

Charge for handprints.

New Leadership class should help coordinate and run spirit events. It's an elective. We will need to coordinate with Ms Buffenbarger, the teacher.

Spirit week: we will sell spirit wear during the day during homecoming week.

Raider Run

Robbie Zapple, Karen Smith and Tina Snee who have chaired the run are working on a guide to help the new chair. Need to pick a day ASAP.

Activities Department Report – Brian Garvey

Electrical upgrade . Contractor needs blueprint which cannot be found.

Trying to find the blueprints. Updating breakers. Trying to find at the county level. Hopefully it will be found soon.

Fall Sports Updates - VARSITY

• Football – (1-2) Lost heartbreaker this past Friday to Annandale.

• Field Hockey – (1-8) Hope to improve as we begin to play district teams this week. Have struggled with tough out of district opponents.

• Cheerleading – Gearing up for their District Competition that takes place in

October. Semifinals on 10/16 and Finals on 10/23.

• Cross Country – Faired fairly well in their two large invitationals, Monroe Parker and Braddock Relays. Had very respectable showings against large fields. Have only run in one regular season meet thus far.

• Volleyball – (4-4) Won their divisional bracket at the Endless Summer

Tournament in VA Beach.

News and Notes

• New conference alignment- is still being worked on.

• Gymnastics – potential “new” Winter sport in 2012

• 1 st Annual Raider Basketball Tip-Off Tournament: Games will be played by 4 girls and 4 boys teams on Thurs., Fri and Sat (11/29, 11/30 & 12/1)

• Pink Week – 10/1 – 10/5

Starting on Monday, October 1 st through Friday, October 5 th during lunch we will have a penny war between the classes to see what class raises the most money for our “Cheer for the Cause.” The class that wins the “class war” will get half the funds they raised as a reward. We will also have a penny war between the

FALL Sports Teams during lunch. The team that raises the most money will get a team pizza party. There is a possibility that we might sell shirts. We’d sell those at lunch and before the Varsity game on Friday. All proceeds raised will be donated to charity.

Monday, October 1 st – we are asking the Field Hockey Team to support the cause by wearing something pink and the cheerleaders will hand out mini pink ribbons at the gate.

Tuesday, October 2 nd – the cheerleaders will be selling ribbon cookies for the

“cheer for the cause”. Encourage everyone to attend the Volleyball game at

Yorktown – maybe we could give a raffle ticket to those that show up as incentive and they win a prize.

Wednesday, October 3 rd – we want to encourage everyone to support our

Volleyball team by going to the Pink Dig at West Potomac High School.

Thursday, October 4 th – F/JV Football at MV –

Friday, October 5 th – home football game – we announce the class and team winter of the week long activities. We will have a donation station at the game.

All teams are encouraged to wear something pink to show support.
