Abstract

Animal testing is still being used in several laboratories for beauty products, or cures for disease. The process and effects these animals go through during the experiments are painful and brutal. Animal testing must be put to a stop due to the effects that these experiments have on these animals.

My Reasons for Why

Animal Testing Must Be Put To a Stop

You have probably heard from companies such as Johnson & Johnson, L'Oréal, Arm & Hammer,

Olay, and Pantene; but did you know that those companies, as several others experiment their products on animals. There is a high chance that the makeup or fragrances you are wearing at this very moment, before being sold to you could have irritated the skin of a mouse, or been the cause of blinding a rabbit. Organization and companies such as U.S. agencies, Health Charities and many others are for animal testing.

Why should animals be tested on products that are meant for us, humans? Why should they have to go through the pain, and be mistreated? That is right, mistreated. If animals are being experimented on, you would think that researchers would care for them. WRONG. Majority of these companies could care less what happens to these animals, and what the results can do to them. After reading an article based on how PETA went undercover to the University of North

Carolina (UNC) – Chapel Hill, to find an example of how animals were being mistreated, did I realize how cruel animal testing really was. These animals were neglected, and uncared for. Animals being tested there did not have sufficient space, water, food, or veterinary care. PETA witnessed several horrific actions made by UNC. For example, throwing away recommendation papers made by veterinary technicians, breaking necks off of mice with a metal cage-card holder, then just tossing them into a cooler where “dead” animals were put, but found one of probably several paralyzed with a broken neck, and placing mice into a CO2 chamber grasping for air. These are just a few things what goes on at UNC and UNC alone. Imagine these actions occurring in every company that test on animals, and how many animals go through this torture. Other examples of mistreat, and

Animal Testing 4 torture done by these experiments are overly large tumors left on animals, open wounds on heads, being blinded, having large amounts of soaps pumped into their systems, constantly being smacked and the list goes on. As mentioned earlier, these experiments are also done by U.S. agencies. The money received by taxes, are used to pay for these experiments.

These test sponsored by the government, kill more than 2,000 animals every time they are performed. And that not one of these tests has been official proof to predict human health affects. Then why is our tax money used on something that has obviously proven nothing for us? This does not just go for the U.S. agencies, but as well as health charities.

There are numerous health charities, such as the American Cancer Society, the March of

Dimes, and the American Heart Association in which donations given to these charities are used on malicious, irrelevant experiments on several animals, that we are told to be promising humanbased programs. Yet death rates on diseases have remained the same, or have even increased. How do we know that the tests run on animals, are accurate to what they can cause to us, humans? Animals and humans have different systems, which result into different outcomes. So why continue doing it?

“Companies that continue to blind and poison animals do so simply because they have always done so and don’t have the vision to try a new and better way” told one company, CEO to Kathy Guillermo.

Kathy Guillermo is the director of PETA’s Laboratory Investigations Department, where she works to find and expose the cruelty of animal experimental industries. “And they don’t want to prove PETA right,”

CEO added. In other words, these companies rather protect their dignity, than to prove someone else right. They rather continue torturing, and killing animals to “win” against a customer campaign. As a researcher or scientist wouldn’t you want an accurate result, instead of caring if you proved a campaign right? There are better ways to finding them, why not use bodies or organs donated by humans. There are cloned skins that can be used, so then use them. Not only will this give you a better result to the

Animal Testing 5 effects of the products, or experiments but these animals won’t have to go through this cruelty anymore. Animal testing is proven to be unscientific, for results are not true. All animals, just like humans feel pain, fear, sadness, loneliness, as well as other emotions. These animals being used for experiments can’t tell you how much these products or test hurt, but you can imagine. As a human being, you would not want to go through any of these things, then why should animals?

Animal testing must be put to a stop, for they go through various pains, and the results in test are not even accurate to what they can do to us. Go online and search for companies, or organizations that test on animals, and you will see several listed. If there are companies listed that you buy products from just remember what it could have done to an animal before you purchase it. Do you part by either refusing to buy their products because of animal testing being done under their company, or simply write, or email to them your concerns or opinions on animal testing. You can make a difference, as mentioned in a site based on animal testing, “the power is in the hand of the consumers”
