William Lawrence and Blanche Hughes Foundation in conjunction with the USC Parker Institute for
Childhood Cancer Research is accepting grant applications. The goal is to develop novel therapies for
childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia. If you know of someone in your institution whose interest dovetails
with this aim please make them aware of this funding opportunity.

William Lawrence and Blanche Hughes Foundation (WLBHF) is a non-profit organization whose major
goal is to foster discoveries in pediatric acute lymphocytic leukemia (especially B-ALL) with a goal of
developing effective therapies for the disease. Applicants must be either an established investigator with
an association to an academic institution or must be part of a lab working with an established
investigator.
Grant applications should be no greater than 7 pages (Includes: Abstract, Background, Experimental
Design, Expected Results, Potential Problems). Please use: Point 11 font or greater, Arial, single spaced.
Also include: Reference, Detailed Timeline, Budget Justification (Equipment is not included and
Education Conferences ≤ $3,000), Other Support and Biosketch (NIH format). Please submit Abstracts
of all other grants you have been awarded or currently awaiting their decision.
Last year, 29 grants were awarded; emphasis was placed on the translational merits of the proposal.
Priority will be given to those grants that have a translational bent on getting new therapies to children
with leukemias. Further areas of studies would be to identify new therapeutic targets.
Funding: Grants are limited to $150,000/year (direct costs). Indirect costs are limited to 10% per year.
Funded grants are reviewed on a yearly basis and those that meet their milestones may be renewed on a
yearly basis for up to two subsequent years.
Review of grant: All applicants are reviewed by the grant committee and final approval rests with the
Board of Directors. Awarding of the grant is based on the priority score and the availability of funds.

Grant deadline: September 1, 2015, no late applications. Notification of funding decision should occur
about December 21, 2015. Funding period January 1, 2016 – December 31, 2016.
