From the internet go to the LCSD Website at www.lyon.k12.nv.us Click on Students Click on “Download 5-Year Plan” Complete all areas of the form. This is a locked form. Tab from box to box to enter information. Click on the check boxes. Click on the existing course names to get a drop down list of other course choices. For electives, please type in the name of the course. 5. Go to “File” on the menu bar 6. Click “Save As” 7. Change the location to save the file to the “I” drive. Select the “Students” folder, then select the “5 Year Plans” folder. You will save your file to that folder. 8. Re-name the file with this format: Last Name_First Name_Grade a. Example: Smith_John_10 9. You may also want to save this file to a disk or flash drive for your own records. 10. Print the completed form, sign the form, and have your parents sign the form. 11. Return the form to your counselor for their signature. A copy will be kept in the guidance office for future reference. ACT / SAT Test Seniors work with the High School Guidance Office to have their individual transcripts and applications sent to the colleges of their choice. County Career & College Fair Military Presentations College entrance exam that many students take the Spring of their junior year in high school. A college and career event that senior students participate in at the local convention center. ASVAB Test The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. Junior and seniors can take this exam which gives them valuable information about their aptitudes and abilities and how they relate to various career areas. Boys/Girls State Course Registration Military reps visit the high schools to talk to interested junior and senior students about their various programs. PLAN Test Junior students can apply in the spring to attend this 1 week government based summer program. CIS Inventory Career Information System accessible through the website: www.nvcis.intocareers.org Draft 2/25/2010 The process all students go through each Spring of the school year to enroll in classes they want for the following school year. Credit Redemption Opportunities available to students to make-up failed credits needed for graduation. Credit Requirements Required classes students need to take to meet diploma requirements for graduation and or advanced diploma and millennium scholarship. Job Shadow Opportunities to spend time with people in the community who have careers the student has an interest in. Practice ACT exam offered to students their 10th grade year. Proficiency Exam State mandated tests students must pass as a graduation requirement. The tests include math, reading, science and writing. PSAT Test Practice SAT exam offered to students their 10th and 11th grade years. The test is a scholarship qualifying test for juniors. Resume Creation Students will create their own individual resumes which reflect their career goals, work experience, club and sport participation, etc. Scholarship Search The High School Guidance Office offers a variety of scholarship opportunities during their senior year. Senior Roundtables District event which seniors participate in which covers various topics of post-secondary interests. Transcript Review Counselors meet with the students in the classroom to review their permanent academic records. Transition Activities Career and/or college related activities.
