SCHOLARSHIP
$1,000
TO BE APPLIED TOWARD TUITION AND FEES
Candidate must be an entering freshman at Winston-Salem State University with at
least a 2.7 or equivalent grade point average (GPA) and at least 850 composite score on
the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or 18 on the American College Test (ACT) to qualify
for the Alumni Scholarship. Awards are made on a competitive basis. Students must
maintain at least a 2.7 GPA throughout the freshman year and must attend a high school
in Wake County. The student must reside on campus during the freshman year.
Winston-Salem State University offers 55 programs of study: 42 baccalaureate programs
and one post-baccalaureate certificate program in computer science through the College
of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Economics, School of Education & Human
Performance and School of Health Sciences in a wide range of majors. WSSU also offers
12 graduate programs, nine master degree programs, two post-master certification
programs and one add-one teaching licensure program in Business Administration
(MBA), Elementary Education (M.Ed.), Physical Therapy (MPT), Computer Science and
Information Technology (MCST), Nursing (MSN), and Rehabilitation Counseling
(MSRC).
Winston-Salem State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033,
Phone 404-679-4501) to award baccalaureate and master’s degrees.
WSSU’s School of Business and Economics is one of a select international assembly to
achieve the distinction of accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools
of Business International, the premier accrediting body for business education.
Student/faculty ratio is 18 to 1. Through partnership arrangements, faculty have studied
and worked in Sweden, Russia, Ghana, West Africa, Mexico, Brazil, China and
Australia.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

SELECTION
CRITERIA:
A student will receive $1,000.00 for the academic year ($500.00 per semester)
for undergraduate study.
* Satisfactory academic progress (2.7 GPA or above) – Weighted
* Graduating High School Senior
* Entering freshmen (according to credit)
* Must attend a high school in Wake County
* Accepted for admission to Winston-Salem State University
(Not on a conditional basis) for the upcoming semester.
* Two (2) sealed letters of recommendation; one from a school
official (i.e., principal, teacher, school counselor, etc.) and
one from another adult other than a school official (i.e.,
pastor, another church official, employer, etc.). Neither
adult can be a relative of the student.
* Official high school transcript (sealed)
* Copy of highest SAT and/or ACT score

Applications are available in each Wake County high school’s
Student Services Department or your local church. Mail all completed
