CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
NEWNOWNEXT EASTERN CAPE 2014 aims to discover exciting new talent in contemporary art and
showcase their work locally and nationally. Open to any person practising art as an amateur artist,
art student or self-taught artist that lives in South Africa. The three winning artists will each receive
15,000, 10,000 and 5,000 rands respectively of prize money. Winning artists will be featured in a
separate four – man exhibition in June 2015.
Artists are required to enter a minimum of four and maximum of six works. This year we are aiming
to make the NEWNOWNEXT EATERN CAPE Artists competition big and better as we broaden our
scope to champion the work of emerging artists. One of them could be you.

ARTISTS MAY SUBMIT WORK IN ANY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DISCIPLINES:
Painting/Illustration
Media accepted for the painting competition: oil, acrylic, industrial paints, ink, vinyl, watercolour,
graphite, pencil, illustrations, printing of various forms, etc. The work can have any form of support:
canvas, paper, cardboard, wood, plastic, metal, etc. The maximum size permitted in a twodimensional format is 2.5 x 2.5 metres, including the frame, if used.
Photography/Digital Media
Media accepted for the photography competition: works in 2D, including digital photography,
traditional-analogue photography, net art/web art, computer graphic modelling, software art or
works in which several media are used, for example digital manipulations which include the use of
painting or other forms of manual expression, polaroids, collages, etc. The maximum size permitted
in a two-dimensional format is 2.5 x 2.5 metres, including the frame, if used.
3D (Sculpture, Glass, Ceramics)
Media accepted for the 3D competition: all materials are accepted (organic or inorganic). The
maximum size permitted in a two-dimensional format is 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 metres, weight 150 kg.
Other (Linocut, etching and woodcut)
ALL SUBMITTED ARTWORKS MUST BE EXHIBITION READY
RULES OF ENTRY
1. You must be over the age of 18 and under 33 years of age.
2. There is no entry fee.
3. Entries must be submitted before 10 December 2014 at 23:59 GMT.
4. Your work must be created solely by yourself.
5. Your work must not have been used for any commercial purposes.
6. Artists must not have exhibited work on public display on more than one occasion in the Eastern
Cape.
8. Accepted media: Painting/Illustration, Photography/Digital Media, 3D (Sculpture, Glass, Ceramics).
9. If you win, you must be willing to agree to assign, a commitment MOU to exhibit in the four – man
exhibition ‘HERE WE ARE’ in June 2015.
10. Entry into the competition implies that you have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions.
Judging criteria
There will be three independent judges for the NEWNOWNEXT EATERN CAPE 2015 Artists
competition. Every entry is judged based on creative merit and technical excellence. These pieces of
artwork will be judged by a panel of highly regarded industry professionals. The panel of judges will
select three artworks from the entries for the First, Second and third prizes.

Artworks must not be signed by the artist
Do take time to read the brief carefully as it’s important to consider our diverse audience.
Do not send us a card design. Our aim is to discover emerging artists with something fresh
and original to say.
Ensure that your entry/entries belongs to one or more of the following categories –
Photography/Digital Media, Painting/Illustration or 3D.
We reserve the right to leave out works based on availability of space, offensive content and
or quality
All works must be mounted or framed and ready to hang
No works may be removed from the exhibition before its closing
Any submission that doesn’t meet these criteria will not be considered.

The Judges decision is final. Galerie NOKO, NEWNOWNEXT EASTERN CAPE 2015 will not
enter into any discussion with any party/parties in this regard.
Employees of Galerie NOKO, their subsidiaries or their advertising agencies and family
members of any such employees are not eligible to participate in the exhibition/Competition.
