McNair Research Project Agreement
(McNair is a Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program)
Central Washington University
As a McNair Researcher, I agree to the following:
 Meet with my Mentor to discuss the
scope of my research project
 Write a clear statement of the problem
or purpose of my study
 Meet with my Mentor on at least a biweekly basis to discuss progress
 Turn in an annotated bibliography to be
signed by my Mentor and returned to
the McNair Program Director
 Abide by all deadlines and requirements
as set forth in the McNair Research
Class (MCNA 395) syllabus
 Obtain Human Subject Committee
approval before conducting any
research with human participants
As a McNair Fellow, I agree to the following:
 Reconcile suggested changes to the
proposal made by both my Mentor and
the McNair Academic Coordinator
 Devise a research plan with my Mentor
for conducting at least 270 hours of
research, divided into bi-weekly
timesheets to be handed in before
beginning research internship; I
understand that my Mentor will sign
these timesheets
 Turn in to the McNair office the above
mentioned signed timesheets after
each 60 hours of research completed;
stipend installments will be dispersed
for each timesheet; you must sign for
the installment in the McNair Office
 Turn in final research paper to McNair
office. Upon completion of the paper,
you will receive your final stipend
payment
 Prepare the final paper for presentation
as a poster, journal article, or other
appropriate format
As a McNair Associate, I agree to the following:
 Prepare a 135 hour summer research
plan that will culminate in a research
proposal for independent study during
the academic year.
 Turn in to the McNair office the above
mentioned signed timesheets after
each 30 hours of research; installments
will be dispersed for each timesheet;

you must sign for the installment in the
McNair Office
 Turn in a rough draft of my proposal to
Mentor at least two weeks before final
proposal is due
 Make revisions as suggested and turn in
final proposal to McNair Office
As a McNair Mentor, I agree to the following:
 Approve all McNair related expenses in advance with the McNair Director
 Work with my Scholar to develop the research proposal in accordance with the Guidelines for
Research Proposals
 Choose an appropriate discipline-specific journal for formatting citations and references
 Guide the literature review and sign the annotated bibliography
 Read the rough draft of the research proposal and comment on grammar, spelling, format, and
content
 Approve final draft of research proposal before it is turned in to the McNair Office
 Help Scholar reconcile recommendations for the proposal made by the McNair staff
 Meet regularly with my Scholar and sign bi-weekly timesheets during actual research time
 Direct data collection, analyses, and write-up of Scholar’s research paper
 Evaluate final research paper
 Help Scholar prepare final paper for presentation
 If possible, attend a professional research conference with my Scholar
Note: Changes to this agreement must be made in advance and are subject to the approval of
the Director of McNair. CWU McNair Scholars Program reserves the right to make changes to
this agreement at any time with notification to all parties.
I have read and agreed to the McNair Research Internship Agreement. I understand that noncompliance can result in withholding part or all of funding.
