Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time fixed term
position for 1yr as Postdoctoral Researcher in the National University of Ireland
Galway Plant and AgriBiosciences Research Centre (PABC) at the National
University of Ireland, Galway.
The CCAFS-CIAT-NUI Galway partnership is engaged in agricultural crop research
for development research and training to facilitate more sustainable and climateresilient nutrition of rural women smallholders.
Job Description:
 The researcher will coordinate research and develop curriculum materials for
an international educational and training program on Climate Change, Crop
Production, Agriculture and Food Security and will have a combined research,
education and coordination role in relation to the overall Program.
 The research will conduct and establish lab research to support and backstop
the broader NUIG/CCAFS Research Program. Initially this will consist of
agricultural crop research for development research and training to facilitate
more sustainable and climate-resilient nutrition of rural women smallholders
through development, dissemination and utilization of drought-tolerant bean
varieties with enhanced micronutrient content.
Qualifications:



The successful candidate should have a PhD degree and skill set of
relevance to climate change, agricultural research, agronomy, crop
production, nutrition and food security, particularly in relation to developing
countries with prior experience in international agricultural/crop research in
the context of poverty reduction and livelihood security.
Broad perspective, ability and motivation to identify and harness (for training)
cutting edge research across multiple disciplines spanning sciences, social
sciences and the policy sphere, with a strong orientation towards evidencebased research and training of relevance to developing countries.
Should include understanding of current thinking and approaches for
improving nutrition and food security in developing countries.
Desirable criteria



The successful candidate would ideally have Previous experience in
development of cutting-edge international masters degree programs, distance
and e-learning approaches and research experience in high-quality and highimpact agricultural research for development (e.g. within CGIAR, United
Nations, university, INGO, donor sectors).
The ideal candidate should have excellent research, communication and
organizational skills and work well in a team; be highly motivated and
passionate about agricultural and crop research for development,
international development and the development of new innovations; be
focused on impact pathways, and have strong documentation, oral and
interpersonal skills.
Candidates with skills and expertise in climate change and crop production
modelling, smart agriculture, GIS/agri-mapping and agri-scenario
development, food security and agricultural research strategies and related
areas are encouraged to apply.
Salary: €37,750 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants
will apply)
Start date: This position will expected to commence in early January 2014
