Module 5, Chapter 5: Decision Making, Learning,
Creativity, and Entrepreneurship
BAS 283 Principles of Management
The primary goal of this module is: to examine how managers make effective decisions, with factors such
as individual, group, and organizational in consideration. Also included are methods for managers to
promote organizational learning and creativity, along with differentiating between entrepreneurs and
intrapreneurs.

Learning Objectives
After Reading this chapter, performing the learning activities, and taking the quiz, the student will be able
to:
1. Understand the nature of decision making and differentiate between programmed and
nonprogrammed decisions and explain why nonprogrammed decisions are complex.
2. List and describe the six steps of the decision making process and explain how cognitive biases
can lead to ineffective decisions.
3. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of group decision making, and describe techniques
that can improve it.
4. Explain the role that organizational learning and creativity play in assisting with effective
decisions.
5. Describe how managers can encourage and promote entrepreneurship to create a learning
organization, and differentiate between entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs.

just the opposite. What are you going to do? Hint: you might want to use the 6 steps in decision
making discussed in the chapter.
