New Build
At last it has started. If you haven’t noticed, fencing has been placed around the new build site. An archaeologist
is visiting the site next week and on Wednesday work is due to commence. Hooray!
World Book Day
World Book Day takes place on Thursday 5th March 2015, but we will be celebrating it on FRIDAY 6th MARCH, we
are looking forward to seeing many Potato Character creations! These can be brought into school from Monday 2 nd
March. The children can also dress up as a character from a story book.
World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help get them
started on their reading journey, every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be
exchanged for one of TEN special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more.
You can find out more about the books at worldbookday.com/books. Your child will come home with a token and it
can be redeemed at most UK bookshops.
Parent Questionnaires
Many thanks to those of you who completed the questionnaires from parents evening. The suggestions and positive
comments have been very useful. As a result of the information we have gathered, we would like to invite you to a
Maths Workshop on Tuesday 17th March at 5.00pm. Some of our Year 6 children will demonstrate a variety of
methods used in school for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Please return the reply slip below.
The completed questionnaires were put into a prize draw and the winner is Nicola Hall who will receive a £20
voucher for Deanos. A big thank you to Mrs Skotidakis for donating the voucher.
Walk to School
Front Street have been invited to take part in a walk to school project by Living Streets. Each class will have a wall
chart with all of the children’s names displaying who has walked, scooted or cycled to school each day. Even if
children have travelled to school by bus or car and have then walked or scooted from the car park etc. they will
receive a tick. If a child manages to walk to school once a week for a month they will receive a special pin badge.
Those who walk every day have got some special prizes. This will continue for the next few months. So…..….. get
walking!

Nursery
Thank you to everyone who came to hear the children sing their Chinese New Year songs and take part in their
Dragon March. They really enjoyed making the dragon and were very excited to show you all.
Next week the sound of the week is 'o'.
Don't forget we are visiting Whickham Library and the Hermitage Garden on Wednesday 4th. Thank you to
everyone who has said they can come and help. We need all helpers to come straight into nursery with their child
on that day. As I am typing this we do still need another helper on the morning and 3 on the afternoon. Please let
staff know if you are able to help.
Digging has begun on the field next to Nursery in preparation for our new school! Obviously the children are going
to have questions and be interested in all that is going on so we are using it as a focus for next week. If you have
any children's books on building, diggers, Bob the Builder that we could borrow we would be very grateful. Thank
you!
Year 1
Thank you to everyone who helped on our trip to Beamish. Your help is always appreciated.
Children are asked to bring in their favourite book on Thursday and Friday next week for World book Day.
Year2
Spelling
Each child this week will bring home a new Spelling Booklet in their reading folders. Each week on a Thursday they
will write in their own spellings to be tested on the following Friday. There will be space for your child to practise
their spellings.
The test will be done in the back of the booklets so you can see how your child has scored, and where any mistakes
were made.
To enable this to work you need to make sure your child has this booklet in their bag each day and has time to
practise at home.
This will replace the spellings in their homework books. Those using the spelling app, the code will be written in the
booklet also.
T-Shirts
Children will need one plain white t shirt for art later in the term. The t-shirt will be returned, however it won't
be white anymore! Please ensure they are in school by Friday 13th March.
Yours sincerely
