RUTGERS UNIVERSITY INN AND CONFERENCE CENTER
HITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ALL-TIME HIGH IN OCCUPANCY
On-campus lodging venue unveils special offers for 2015 celebration
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Rutgers’ only on-campus lodging and conference facility in
New Brunswick/Piscataway – which hit an all-time high in guest room occupancy in 2014 –
turns 50 this year and is celebrating with special offers and events.
The Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center is offering monthly specials
throughout its anniversary year while also hosting two open houses and an overnight stay
giveaway during Rutgers Day on Saturday, April 25. For example, the inn is offering:


A 50 percent discount on any online course sponsored by the Rutgers Center for
Continuing Professional Development (ccpd.rutgers.edu/programs/online-certificateprograms) to the 50th person who makes a reservation in the month of May.
50 percent off for a two-night (or longer) stay in April.
Offers are listed at: ruicc.rutgers.edu/50th-anniversary.
The university purchased the 21-acre estate known as Lindenwood in 1965 from the
family of Sydney Bleecker Carpender and his wife, the former Louise Johnson. Johnson was the
daughter of Johnson & Johnson co-founder James Wood Johnson. The stately Carpender House,
a 20-room manor house built in 1911 in the Tudor revival style popular during that period, was
reopened as the Continuing Education Center.
In the past three years, Rutgers University Inn and Conference Center has undergone
numerous updates and added amenities, including new guest room televisions, window
treatments, carpeting, mattresses, bathroom fixtures and refrigerators. The conference center
added new computers and audio-visual equipment. Overnight guests also receive complimentary
passes to the nearby Cook/Douglass Recreation Center.

-2Situated on Douglass Campus, the University Inn and Conference Center is operated by
the Rutgers Division of Continuing Studies (DoCS). The facility has six conference rooms with a
top capacity of 100 conferees. In 2014, the facility hosted over 14,000 conference visitors, more
than 5,000 overnight guests and 260 events. The venue welcomed visitors from more than 17
countries in 2014, while posting the highest occupancy in its history. Overnight and conference
visitors enjoy free onsite parking as well as access to the university bus system for travel within
the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus and to restaurants, entertainment and nightlife in
downtown New Brunswick.
Rutgers academic departments flock to the center for everything from seminars to
exchange programs to leadership retreats. While 44 percent of meetings involve university
faculty, staff or students, corporate meetings make up 16 percent. Nonprofit, educational and
religious institutions also use the facility on a regular basis.
The inn and conference center’s mission is service to the university, says Director Deana
Pagnozzi, who adds that the university’s commitment is to use the facility for educational
purposes in perpetuity. “The inn and conference center provides a suitable education facility with
both comfortable contemporary meeting space and a rich historical setting for university and
nonuniversity groups,” Pagnozzi says.

rates range from $74 to $99 for overnight stays for individual and group bookings.
