Syllabus and Policies:
Course Description-This course will be an in-depth study of living organisms and their
interactions with each other and their environment. Biology will help you gain a better
understanding of the world we live in.
2. Expectations and Rules
• Respect: Be respectful of yourself, those around you and your environment.
•
Responsibility: Own your learning. Come to class prepared to learn.
• Safety: ALWAYS act in a manner that ensures the safety of yourself and those
around you.
3. Materials- Five Star 3 subject notebook. You will keep all of your materials for the year
in the notebook to use to study for the finals. Take good care of it! Our text is
Biology by Miller and Levine. You may check out a copy of this textbook in the book
room. *
*Course fees will pay for lab supplies, dissection specimens, and materials for class activities. Students
who break or lose any lab supplies will be assessed an additional fee.
4. Assignments – All work should be neat and complete (that means complete sentences).
You will have a wide variety of assignments including daily work, reading assignments,
vocabulary, quizzes, labs, notebook checks, tests and projects.
5. Class website: The class website will have all assignments and due dates. Joining the
class website is mandatory. Sign in to your school google drive account: Username:
your student id #, Password: Password1. Search for google classroom, select “I am a
student”, in the top right corner it says join a class. Input the class code: mars018. If
you have any trouble with this please let me know ASAP.
6. Attendance and Tardies -It is important that you make it to class on time every day.
Please see your student handbook pages 6-9 for the most current attendance policy
information.
7. Late Work- You may turn in any assignment the day after it is due for 75% credit. No
late work will be accepted past 24 hours after the assigned due date. If your absence
is excused on the day an assignment is due the assignment is due the day you return.
You will be given the same number of days you were absent to make up any assignments
given when you were absent. (Example: If you are absent for 2 days you will have 2 days
to make up any missed assignments.) If you are unexcused on an assignment due date
or for a test, no credit will be given.
8. Don’t Cheat or Plagiarize- All your work should be in your own words and not
identical to anyone else’s or to internet sources. First offense will result in a 0 grade
and parents/guardians and administrators will be contacted. Second offense will
result in failure of this class. Students who let others copy their work will be subject
to the same consequences.
9. Make Mistakes! - I don’t expect that you know everything; it’s okay to make a mistake
in this class. Learning from our mistakes is the key to success!
