Procedure for Undergraduate and Integrated
Masters students to request Early Compensation
Guidance notes and proforma for students
1
Decision about requesting early Compensation
You may be eligible for compensation but you also have a reassessment opportunity. This is
because you are leaving or completing your course and can exceptionally request
compensation to be applied ahead of reassessment to avoid a delay in achieving your award.
If you achieve the profile for compensation, any compensated modules will be changed to a
grade of CP (Compensated Pass) and your transcript will confirm your credit in the module.
Marks are not changed.
2
What you must do
Please tell your Faculty Helpdesk in writing that you wish to apply for compensation ahead of
reassessment, using the reply slip below. Overseas students should contact their Faculty
Helpdesk by phone or e-mail to confirm their decision.
3
What you can choose to do
If you decide to apply for early compensation, the profile for compensation which allows
undergraduate (levels 4, 5 and 6) and Integrated Masters students to exit with an award, is:
 achieve 40% or more on the complete level overall, including failed modules AND
 make a valid attempt at all assessment tasks AND
 achieve 30% or more in each failed module up to a maximum of 20 credits
If you decide to take the reassessment opportunity, no further action is needed. Compensation
will be applied to all students where applicable when the normal reassessment opportunities
have passed.
4
Points to consider before you make your choice
 If you request compensation to be applied ahead of reassessment, this decision stands.
You cannot be reassessed at a later date.
 Some modules and tasks may be exempt from compensation. For example, those marked
by pass/fail grades, and due to professional, statutory or regulatory body requirements.
 A lower module mark could affect your award classification if you choose not to be
reassessed.
