Position Summary:
The Financial Analyst, Environmental Accounting is primarily responsible for administration of the
landfill accounting models and supporting data for the Company’s extensive active and closed landfill
network. The Financial Analyst, Environmental Accounting reports to Republic Services’ External
Reporting team and assists in the production of timely and accurate U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) and other external filings (i.e., Form 10-K and Form 10-Q) as well as applicable
internal reports. This position provides direct support and financial analysis to the Engineering,
Operations, and Market Development departments.
Principal Responsibilities
• Maintains and modifies the landfill engineering models for the Company’s landfill facilities.
• Creates, generates, and reviews reports used in the Company’s monthly close (generally using Essbase,
Lawson and Excel) to prepare financial statements, footnotes, and other financial information to be filed
with, or furnished, to the SEC (such as 10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks, etc).
• Tracks and forecasts capital, closure, post-closure and environmental expenditures.
• Monitors and tracks capitalized interest and project status.
• Prepares monthly journal entries and performs monthly reconciliations.
• Analyzes landfill accounting models and communicates factors that cause adjustments to the
appropriate parties.
• Acts as a liaison between field engineers and various corporate departments.
• Responds to requests from various corporate departments for landfill related information.
• Assists in annual landfill model support review process and works with the Engineering department to
design, test and support changes to the landfill models.
• Works with the Market Development department on the status of landfill expansions and new
development.
• Provides training and accounting guidance to field controllers and other corporate departments
relating to matters involving landfill, environmental, and market development.
• Supports the annual budget process by providing the landfill amortization and accretion rates.
• Prepares and presents financial information to senior level management on matters related to landfill,
environmental, and market development.
• Assists in quarterly review and annual external audit of the Company’s financial statements as it
relates to landfill accounting.
• Provides financial analysis and helps support ongoing operational initiatives.
• Completes or assists in completion of ad hoc financial analysis.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Minimum of 3 years of combined public accounting experience at a Big 4 or Tier II National firm.
• MBA or other graduate degree.
• Waste or transportation industry experience.
• Experience using Hyperion Essbase.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of combined financial analysis and public or corporate accounting experience.

• Strong systems skills including Excel, Visual Basic, general ledger, reporting tools, and database skills.
• Strong business & financial acumen.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to effectively manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex problems.
• Strong technical and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for all constituents from staff to executive
management.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and the relationship between the balance sheet,
income statement, and cash flow statement.
• Must be versatile, capable, and willing to assist other departments effectively when required.
