ABSTRACT
EFFECTS OF SAND RUNNING AND WEIGHT TRAINING ON SELECTED
PHYSIOLOGICAL VARIABLES OF COLLEGE LEVEL MEN
INTRODUCTION
Physical education and sports being and integral part of education,
experience the impact of scientific advancements. Now sportsmen are able to
give outstanding performance because
involvement of new, scientifically
substantiated training methods and means of execution of sports, exercises such
as sports techniques and tactics, improvement of sports gear and equipment, as
well as other components and conditions of system of sports training. Physical
fitness includes muscular strength. Muscular endurance, cardio-respiratory
endurance and the most important of them is cardio-respiratory endurance.
Cardio-respiratory fitness is the capacity of heart, blood vessels,
lungs and muscles to function at optimal efficiency. The circulatory and
respiratory systems combine forces in order to carry out the vital responsibility of
providing oxygen –bearing blood throughout the body. Thus the term cardiorespiratory refers to the cooperative efforts of the heart, the heart, the blood
vessels, and the organs of respiration , which are responsible for bringing
environment air into the lungs and ultimately expelling waste gases.
Physiological systems are highly adoptable to exercise. Each task
has major physiological components and fitness for the task requires effective
functioning of appropriate systems. Much research has been conducted in this
area and specific principles of training have been established on the basis of
scientific findings for developing these aspects of physical process.
Involvement in systematic and scientific programme of
conducting the
training will bring about desirable changes in physical and
physiological variables, contributing to the development of strength, speed and
endurance, besides marked changes in resting pulse rate, blood pressure,
hemoglobin and such other physiological variables. Through training stroke
volume and cardiac output are increased, maximal oxygen and ventilator
efficiency are improved, lung volume become larger and diffusion capacities
increase.
AIM AND TASKS OF SPORTS TRAINING
The aim of sports training is to prepare a sportsperson physically,
physiologically and psychologically for a possible highest sports performance of
the time of main competition, in a specific sport. To ensure this, the following line
tasks are to be achieved.
1. Development of sports personality.
2. Physical preparation.
3. Technical preparation.
4. Tactical preparation.
5. Intellect preparation
TYPES OF TRAINING
Then are so many different types of Training. The training should be
decided according to the event of participation.
Some important training are
1) AEROBIC TRAINING
a. Continuous slow run
b. Continuous fast run
c. Slow interval training
d. Fast interval training
2) ANAEROBIC TRAINING
a. Repetition of sprints
b. Interval sprinting
c. Acceleration sprinting
d. Hollow sprints
3) FARTLEK TRAINING
It involves informal fast and slow Running.
4) RESISTANCE TRAINING
a. Polymeric training- eg : hopping, Bounding, Depth Jumps.
b. Weight Training
c. Sand Running
5) CIRCUIT TRAINING
For speed and strength endurance. It is one classification of interval
training
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sand running and
weight training on selected physiological variables of college level men.
HYPOTHESIS
It was hypothesized that there may not be any significance difference, in
selected physiological variables due to the influence of sand running and weight
training.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
1. The result of the study would be great interest to exercise physiologist and
physical educators.
2. The findings of the study will be great value in designing an administrating
physical fitness program and remedial program for those who need such
special attention
3. The study would add to the body of knowledge in the area of exercise
physiology.
OBJECTIVES
1. Sand running is one of the best method for developing cardio-respiratory
endurance. Comparative effect of both the training will improve the
efficiency of heart.
Methodology
The study is delimited to the age group 18 to 25collegelevel male students
various colleges under Calicut university.
students each will be selected from three
Three groups consisting of 20
colleges. 20 subjects were assigned
to do sand Running and 20 subjects were assigned to do weight Training. Other
20 subjects acted as control group.
