Wake Forest Journal of Law & Policy 2015 Symposium
50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act: Looking Back & Moving Forward
Friday, March 20th, at 9:00 a.m.
Worrell Professional Center, Room 1312.
Recent developments in the United States and abroad have resulted in lawmakers sometimes
implementing controversial laws regarding voting, self-defense, and access to healthcare and
education. The Wake Forest Journal of Law & Policy has chosen to celebrate the 50th Anniversary
of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by inviting several distinguished scholars and activists to speak about
the environment of the Civil Rights Act at its creation and in today’s society. This symposium will
encompass a variety of topics surrounding the intersection of law, policy, and the Civil Rights Act.
Symposium speakers include:
 Gregory Parks, Wake Forest University School of Law
 Barbara Arnwine, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Washington, D.C.
 Nicole Porter, Director of Advocacy at the Sentencing Project, Washington, D.C.
 Katy Harriger, Wake Forest University
 Irving Joyner, North Carolina Central School of Law
 Mark Dorosin, University of North Carolina Center for Civil Rights
