Dear West Springfield Little Leaguer:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you about the 9/10, 10/11 and 11/12 All-Star Tournaments. To be properly
considered for the 9/10, 10/11, or 11/12 All-Star tournaments, you must complete the commitment form to indicate
your sincere interest and return to the Concession Stand at the Byron Avenue fields or e-mail to West Springfield
Little League Player Agent, Todd Nethery (see below for address) no later than May 18.
Overview of the 9/10, 10/11 and 11/12 All-Star Teams
Any Majors, AAA, or AA player that is League age 9, 10, 11, or 12 is a possible candidate for the WSLL All-Star
teams. Players and parents may indicate their level of interest using the attached form. For example, players
league age 11 may select to only be considered for the 10-11 year old team and not the 11/12 team by selecting
Option 2; players may select to be considered only for the 11/12 team and not the 10/11 team by selecting Option 1;
or players may select to be considered for both teams by checking both Options 1 & 2.
The all-star team rosters are formed using an intricate selection process, which, depending upon the level, involves
the vote of players, scout teams, managers and coaches, beginning with the highest level team, the 11/12 All-Star
team. If parents opt to have their player considered for two all-star teams as outlined in the paragraph above and
that player is selected by the older age group team, then that player will not be considered for the younger age
group team. The older age team has first choice of the players opting to play at that age level. Opting to be
considered for more than one all-star team does not increase a player's chance of being selected.
While it is a great honor to be selected as a member of an All-Star team, there is also a substantial commitment of
time and effort required in order to participate. The All-Star season ends whenever tournament competition ends.
For all levels, state tournaments will take place in July and regional tournaments will take place during the last week
of July/first week of August. For the 11/12 competition, tournament play could continue through the Little League
World Series in Williamsport, PA in late August.
The All-Star time commitment consists of daily practice for up to three hours beginning in mid-June and then
participation in All-Star tournament play beginning with Districts on June 27. The 11/12 District tournament is
hosted by Woodbridge Little League. The winner advances to the Virginia State tournament hosted by District 5 in
Richmond beginning on July 23. The 10/11 District tournament is hosted by DTQ Little League. The winner
advances to the Virginia State tournament hosted by District 12 in Roanoke beginning on July 16. The 9/10 District
tournament is hosted by West Springfield Little League. The winner advances to the Virginia State tournament
hosted by District 7 in Newport News beginning on July 16. Each state tournament lasts about a week. Players are
expected to attend all team events, including practices, games and social activities.
There is a $105 player registration fee payable to WSLL for All-Star participation that includes uniform costs with the
exception of game pants. Game pants will have to be purchased from a recommended vendor (approximately $30).
There will also be additional team costs that will be determined by the team parent in consultation with parents on
the team. Teams advancing to the State, Regional, or World Series tournaments will incur more costs. It is West
Springfield Little League policy that no player will be denied participation based on ability to pay -- scholarships are
available.
Please complete the All-Star commitment form and return to the Concession Stand at the Byron Avenue fields or email to the West Springfield Little League Player Agent, Todd Nethery, at ptnethery@hotmail.com. If you have any
questions please e-mail Todd Nethery.
It should be clearly understood that accepting the commitment does not guarantee selection.
