GUIDELINES/PROCEDURES FOR JUNIOR SHADOWING DAY
Guidelines
1. Shadowing is a required career exploration activity which will take place on Friday, May 16, 2014.
2. You must shadow with someone other than a parent. A list of sponsors is available in the guidance office,
library and on Edline under “School Information”.
3. A day of shadowing is a full workday which may mean six to eight hours. The minimum amount of time
necessary to fulfill the requirements of the day is five hours.
4. You will be exempt from classes in order to participate in this activity.
5. If an emergency situation arises with you and/or your sponsor (example: illness, unexpected meeting), you
must make arrangements to reschedule the event on a Saturday or a day when school is not in session.
6. A signed permission form, which includes the name of your sponsor, is due to your homeroom teacher by
Monday, April, 7 2014.
7. Junior Shadowing is a graduation requirement. If your junior shadowing report & evaluation are not turned
in by the due date, May 19, 2014, an “F” will be recorded on your transcript. If your junior shadowing report
& evaluation are turned in after the May 19th due date, your transcript will reflect a “failure and make-up.”
8. Your sponsor will evaluate you in the following areas: promptness, personal appearance, courtesy, attitude
and eagerness to learn.
Procedures
1. Please fill out the shadowing form completely. Make sure to include all names, addresses, zip codes,
signatures, etc. The form will be returned to you if it is not complete or illegible.
2. If you are shadowing someone at the Cleveland Clinic, please ask him or her for the location code – it is
part of the mailing address. Otherwise, the letter and evaluation form might not make it to your sponsor on
time.
3. A confirmation letter and evaluation form is sent to your sponsor after you turn in the permission form on
April 7, 2014. This letter gives the sponsor guidelines for the day. The evaluation form completed by your
sponsor will be kept in your guidance file.
4. If you change your shadowing sponsor, please contact the original sponsor, Ms. Iarussi and Mrs. Jill
Cancelliere. A new permission form needs to be completed and turned into the guidance office for your
new sponsor.
5. Sponsors will be contacted on the day of shadowing by Beaumont faculty members.
6. Don’t wait – contact your sponsor now. See Ms. Iarussi or Mrs. Jill Cancelliere in the guidance department
if you are having difficulty.
7. After your shadowing experience, you will be asked to complete a shadowing report. The junior shadowing
requirement is fulfilled when the guidance department receives the evaluation from your sponsor and
when you complete and turn in your shadowing report. The deadline for turning in the evaluation and
shadowing report to your homeroom teacher is Monday, May 19, 2014.

Junior Shadowing Day
May 16, 2014
1. On May 15, 2014, confirm place and time you are to arrive, parking ($), proper attire, lunch
arrangement, and end time. Remember there is a 5 hour minimum (excluding lunch time) required.
2. Look over questions for your paper (posted on Edline under “School Info” – Junior Shadowing) prior to
your junior shadowing day, so you will be able to write a comprehensive paper regarding your
shadowing experience.
3. Ask your sponsor to complete the junior shadowing evaluation form which was mailed to them and
put it into an envelope. You must bring the evaluation back with you and turn it in with your paper on
Monday, May 19, 2014.
4. Papers must be typed, all questions answered completely, and written with proper grammar, spelling
and word usage. There is a minimum paper length of 2 full pages. Once again papers and evaluation
are due Monday, May 19, 2014 in homeroom.
5. Make sure you show enthusiasm, ask relevant questions about the career and educational
requirements for the career field you are observing, and thank your sponsor for their time and sharing
their expertise with you at the end of the day.
6. Always remember that you are representing Beaumont School, so make a good impression!
7. Junior shadowing is a Beaumont graduation requirement (P/F grade) which will be posted on your
transcript for fourth quarter this year. In order to earn a passing grade, you must: 1.) Fulfill the 5 hour
shadowing day experience with a sponsor in the career field of which you have interest; 2.) Turn in a
completed evaluation; 3.) Turn in a well written paper according to the guidelines. Remember if your
junior shadowing report & evaluation are not turned in by the due date, May 19, 2014, an “F” will be
recorded on your transcript. If your junior shadowing report & evaluation are turned in after the May
19th due date, your transcript will reflect a “failure and make-up.”
