The ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL REGIONAL ART EXHIBITION 2014
College and University Sponsorship Agreement
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Art Supporters,
I am contacting you on behalf of the inaugural Illinois High School Regional Art Exhibition to be held at the
Zhou B Art Center in Chicago on Sunday, February 23rd 2014. The exhibition is the first of its kind,
showcasing over 250 works of art from more than 50 of the top high schools in the Chicagoland area
bringing together the diversity of city and suburban artists. The exhibition aims to provide a public platform
for the range and beauty of student artwork, bring scholarship opportunities to these young artists,
promote an artistic community of peers and professionals, celebrate the importance of art in education,
and reinforce the power of art in our students’ lives. Your community high school will be one of more than
50 high schools competing in the show.
The show is dedicated to recognizing students’ artistic achievements. However, we believe it is equally
important to connect high school students with the possibility of a creative career. In order to achieve this
goal, we think it is essential to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with the country’s top Art Schools,
Colleges, and Universities. I am confident this relationship will be an excellent opportunity for your
institution to connect with some of the Chicagoland area's top high school art talent and discuss with them
the possibility of a creative future.
We are asking that institutions that choose to participate in the Illinois High School Regional Art Exhibition
sponsor some type of student awards. Donations can be in the form of, but not limited to, monetary awards,
full or partial scholarships, and/or early college program scholarships. Together, with your generous
donations, we will have the ability to provide unique opportunities that will lead students onto your campus,
pursuing a career in the Visual Arts.
All sponsoring colleges and universities will have the opportunity and are encouraged to set up a display at
the exhibition with promotional materials from your school.
Please review the award sponsorship form. You may contact me with any questions regarding the art
show.
On behalf of all of the visual arts students, we thank you for your support.

representative according to your institutions established criteria.
*Jurors will make the Summer Scholarships selections on Friday, February 21st, 2014
The shows primary goal is to foster connections to a post high school experience. It is our belief, when a student takes part in summer type

SENIOR PORTFOLIO EXHIBITION GUIDELINES & ELIGIBILITY
GUIDELINES & ELIGIBILITY
The Senior Portfolio Exhibition is a showcase of work by graduating seniors who have reached an
advanced level of art instruction. The portfolio must consist of 10 to 20 original pieces of original
student artwork completed during their high school career, and may include artwork from multiple
categories.
The contents of the portfolio should show a progression of an idea, a development of concepts, the
presence of technical skills, and a personal context. The individual works should follow the general
guidelines for the I.R.H.S. Exhibition.
These portfolios will be made accessible to college and university admissions representatives. The
students that apply are eligible for scholarships, however selection for the Senior Portfolio Exhibition
does not guarantee a scholarship award. The students selected for scholarships will be notified in the
Spring of 2014, by the interested schools as well as I.R.H.S. Original artwork that will be needed for
other competitions or assessment between the delivery to and the return of the work from the Senior
Portfolio Exhibition will not be accepted. Accepted artworks will not be returned until the show closes
and artwork is made available for pick-up. All work should be documented before dropping off
originals.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Seniors will complete a College/University Interest Form as part of their application. Many Schools
require students to have applications in process in order to be eligible for scholarship awards. Before
making your school selections, it is advisable that you visit the schools’ campuses, research the
course accreditation, and degree descriptions offered at each awarding institution. Students must be
admitted at the awarding institution before scholarships can be awarded. I.R.H.S. will coordinate
these opportunities, but is not responsible for managing college and university applications, contact
with admissions representatives, or completion of graduation requirements.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The portfolio submission must include an Artist Statement. The statement should describe artistic
interests, influences, development, concentration, and or research. Artist statements are the main
way for students to verbally expand on their portfolio submissions and should be taken seriously.
Statements must be less than 300 words. The Artist Statement for each student portfolio should
discuss the works we see and the ideas behind them.
If you have any questions about submissions, guidelines, or the exhibition programming, please visit www.IAEA.org or contact
Benjamin Jaffe, Portfolio Director at bmjaffe@cps.edu
Thank you and we look forward to seeing your submissions!
