As part of the renovation of its Chumash Casino Resort Hotel, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians
donated hundreds of pieces of furniture to four nonprofits: Good Samaritan Shelter, People Helping People,
Unity Shoppe and Domestic Violence Solutions.
"We have five shelters and the furniture went to three of our five shelters," Marsha Marcoe, associate
executive director of Domestic Violence Solutions, said in a statement. "We're so thrilled to have gotten
what we got. When the truck pulled up with all the beautiful furniture, there was a whole pile of junk
furniture getting ready to be discarded. We're so excited. It's like Christmas here."
Vincent Armenta, tribal chairman, said, "Through this furniture donation, we can continue to support local
organizations that make a positive impact on the lives of so many men, women and children."
"We're happy to help in any way we can."
