TWO YEAR DENTAL TECHNOLOGY
COURSE DESCRIPTION
FIRST YEAR
FIRST SEMESTER
BOTANY AND TAXONOMY
This is a 5-unit course which deals with the study of the nature of plants, physiology, anatomy, ecology,
genetics and survey of plant groups, Emphasis is given to flowering plants because they are not only the
dominant plant groups in the environment but also the most utilized by man.
3 Lecture Hours and 6 Laboratory Hours/week

DENTAL HISTORY AND ORIENTATION
History of dentistry explains the beginning of Dental Technology in foreign countries and in the
Philippines while Dental Orientation deals with the objectives of Dental Science pin terms of Skills related to
laboratory procedures of prosthetic dentistry and its importance in humanity.
ORAL ANATOMY
The morphology of deciduous and permanent teeth, their arrangement and relationship with the supporting
structures; the physiology of the human dentition, growth and development of the skull and jaws correlated to
the eruption of the teeth and the force of occlusion. The laboratory work including drawing, carving and
dissections of the human teeth.
2 Hours Lecture and 6 Laboratory Hours/week
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
This is a 3-unit course designed to equip the first year college students with the necessary communicative
competence in English that will enable them top use the language in learning the different academic disciplines,
it focuses on listening and reading and also develops functional speaking and writing skills.

GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY
The impact of Chemistry on an and the environment, the relevance of chemistry to everyday life and
current issues that lend themselves to discussion from the Chemist’s viewpoint. A brief history of chemistry,
atomic theory, chemical bonding, chemicals in food, and agriculture, plastics, cosmetics, household chemicals,
medicinal use of chemicals, drug and drug abuse, chemicals as poison, pollution and consumer products.

SINING NG PAKIKIPAGTALASTASAN
Paglilinang sa kakayahang pampamantasan sa sining ng pakikipagtalastasan sa wikang Filipino sa
pamamagitan ng pagbabasa ng mga huwarang sulatin at pagsasanay sa pagsusulat at pagbigkas ng mga sariling
sulatin.

COLLEGE ALGEBRA
This is a 3-unit course which deals with the study of sets, rational and irrational numbers. The real
numbers system is presented as a deductive logical system to give the students some idea on the nature of the
number system and the different operations involved. Topics in equation, applications, verbal problems,
progressions and some fundamental concepts of probability are also included.

PHYSICAL FITNESS
This is a 2-unit subject which deals with the study of basic movement skills needed in the performance of
stunts and tumblings and other physical exercises based on scientific principles for the improvement and
maintenance of high level physical fitness.

CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING SERVICE/LITERACY TRAINING SERVICE 1
The CWTS as a component of the NSTP is a course for the first year students both males and females
designed to help them understand, appreciate and eventually live by the basic concepts of the Student’s
Transformation and Enrichment for Truth (STET) with end view of empowering them into becoming a potent
resource for community development.
3 Hours Lecture/week.

SECOND SEMESTER
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
This is a 5-unit course and deals with the study of carbon compounds, alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers,
aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, amines-their chemical structure properties and reactivity;
sources, application and effects on health and the environment. Emphasis on structure and activity relationships
in preparation to understanding environment and biochemical application.
3 Hours Lecture and 6 Hours Laboratory 1 week.
Pre-requisite: GEC-CHEM 1
DENTAL MATERIALS
A course consisting of lectures and laboratory work on the physical and chemical properties of metals and
other materials used in dentistry and their clinical applications. It covers instructions, as to sources,
composition and manipulation.

SPEECH AND ORAL COMMUNICATION
This is a 3 unit course which deals with the study of the correct production of the vowels and consonants
in English speech patterns. Extensive activities in phonetics and articulation, voice control, correct breathing,
posture and platform deportment. It also aims to develop speaking ability for group discussions and interviews.

PANITIKANG FILIPINO
Panimulang kurso ito sa Panitikan ng Pilipinas na ginagamitan ng historical na pananaw. Susuriin ang
mga sanaying pampanitikan na namayani sa bawat panahon sa iba’t ibang wika, kasali na ang nasulat sa Kastila
at Ingles.

GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY WITH DRUG HIV-AIDS EDUCATION
This is a 3 unit course which deals with the contemporary approaches to the analysis and treatment of
complex human behavior. It focuses on man as he acts and interacts with his environment and includes such
topics as: nature and perception, learning, memory, intelligence, motivation, personality and social psychology
in the Philippines setting.
3 Hours Lecture/week
PROSTHETIC 1 (FIXED BRIDGE AND CROWN)
This course is a study in lecture and laboratory of fixed partial prosthesis. Every effort is made to provide
continuity in logical sequence for dental crown and bridge construction which would give the student’s
knowledge of various techniques, methods and preparations of fixed prosthesis without losing sight of their
biological requirements in a living organism.

CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING SERVICE/LITERACY TRAININIG SERVICE 2
This course is sequel to CWTS 1. It is designed to immerse students in activities that will arm them with
the capability to contribute to the uplift of the general welfare and the quality of life for the members of the
community and the enhancement of the facilities especially those that are devoted to improving the health,
environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals of the citizens.
3 Hours lecture/ week
Pre-requisite: GEC –NSTP 1
RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES
This course deals with the basic movement and rhythmic skills used in learning and creating simple
natural dances; basic steps and dance terms needed in the correct inter relation and performance of the Phil.
Folk Dances.

GENERAL ZOOLOGY
This is a five unit course which deals with the general introduction to animal life. It covers the general
principles of animal biology and their organization into the special systems that carry on essential life functions.
3 Hours Lecture and 6 Hours laboratory / week.
SECOND YEAR
FIRST SEMESTER
GENETICS WITH EVOLUTION, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCES
This is four unit courses and deals with the study of the genetic material, the principles underlying its
transmission and arrangement and its role in the evolutionary process; structural abnormalities cause gene
alteration and other phenomena. It also includes current researches and studies in human genetics.
3 Hours Lecture and 3 hours Laboratory/week
Pre-requisite: ZOO 1
HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
This course provides a basic understanding of human anatomy and the principles of physiology. Basic
regulatory mechanisms which promote homeostasis, familiarization of some physiological parameters which
serve as indicators for the organism’s state of health, anatomic and physiologic bases of some common medical
disorders and recognition of signs and symptoms associated with the serious medical conditions requiring
expert medical attention.
3 Hours lecture and 6 Hours Laboratory / week
Pre-requisite: BOT 1
PROSTHETIC 2 (REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE)
This course deals with the study of removable partial prosthesis, its principles, application and biologic
relation to living tissues. It is geared to teach students the step by step technical procedure and partial denture
planning, designing and fabrication. Emphasis is placed also on the study of the various dental materials
incident to partial denture construction.

Pre-requisite: Dental 4
LOGIC
This is a 3 unit subject which deals primarily on the systematic study of the definition and division
concepts, the formulation of judgments, immediate and mediate inference and deductive reasoning. It also delas
with the philosophical reflections of moral experiences and the foundation of moral values with emphasis on
morality and hierarchy of values.

SOCIO-ANTHRO EITH CURRENT ISSUES FP & VALUES FORMATION
This is a 3-unit course which deals with basic concepts in sociology stressing man’s interrelationships
with other men and his environment. It also deals with the current political, social, economic, and cultural and
religious problems/issues confronting the Filipinos.
3 hours Lecture/ week.

INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE WITH PHILIPPINE AND WORLD LITERATURE
This is a 3 unit course designed to introduce the students to a growing body of literature that forms part of
the Filipino cultural heritage. The course is a continuation of the literary training received by the students in
previous courses and seeks to increase their awareness of how the Filipino and Foreign writers in English have
sought to give form Filipino experiences.
BASIC COMPUTER OPERATIONS
This is a 3 unit course which deals with the study of basic components and characteristics of the computer,
its capabilities and limitations. It also provides overview of the computer software, hardware procedures and
systems and human resources and their applications in various segments of society.

PHILOSOPHY OF MAN
An inquiry into man as person and his existence in the world with emphasis on the Filipino in the context
of his culture and society.

Pre-requisite: None
INDIVIDUAL / DUAL SPORTS
Fundamental skills of swimming, ballgames and other athletic sports like sipa and other Philippine
games. Playing rules are analyzed for more effective playing.

SECOND SEMESTER
ENGLISH FOR OCCUPATIONAL PURPOSES
This is a 3 unit course which is involves the communication activities used in the actual workplace. It also
designed to train students for job search and job stay here and abroad. It trains students to use information
technology equipment relevant in this highly technological age and past-paced world, thus contributing to the
universal excellence of their institution.

Pre-requisite: GEC – Engl 1 & 2
PROSTHETIC 3 (COMPLETE DENTURE)
This course introduces to the students the technical and basic knowledge of complete denture fabrication
based on the principles of biomechanics which is the dynamic relationship between the living tissues and the
dentures nominated by a multitude of forces serving the total organism.
2 Hours Lecture and 6 hours Laboratory.

PHILIPPINE HISTORY AND CULTURE
This course deals with the history and culture of the Filipino people. It emphasizes the development of the
Philippines into a nation states, its socio-economic, cultural and political development from colonial times up to
the present. The focal point is on the fight for freedom from the colonial regimens of Spain and America. It
underscores the growth of rationalism and the development of ideology which is the rallying point of Philippine
nationhood and Identity.

POLITICAL SCIENCE WITH CONSTITUTION
This 3-unit course is designed to introduce students on the study of political science to be able to further
understand their active participation in government and politics. The evolution of Philippine politics is also
taken up in relation to relevant issues and problems of our present system. It includes the study of the basic and
fundamental rights for which everyone in entitled to enjoy and exercise.

HEALTH ECONOMICS WITH TAXATION AND LAND EFORM
Concepts of microeconomics, money, and banking, economic growth and development and international
economics in relation in relation to health.

TEAM SPORTS
This is a2-unit course which deals with the fundamental sports skill in any two of the team sports such as
bowling, diving, boating and maintain physical fitness and survival techniques and games like
badminton,tennis,sungka and dama.

HEALTHCARE WITH HEALTH ETHICS AND DENTAL JURISPRUDENCE
Concepts and principles in the provision of basic terms of health promotion/maintenance and disease
prevention at the individual and family level and of foundations of moral values on an individual family and
society while dental ethics and jurisprudence is devoted exclusively of the new dental law in relation of the
dental code of ethics.

GENERAL PHYSICS
This is a four unit course which deals with the study of vectors, frictions velocity and acceleration: Law of
motion: circular motion, work, energy and power, impulse and momentum, rotation of rigid bodies, elasticity
vibratory motion, fluids a rest and fluid in motion.
