JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY APPLICATION

The Ringwood Police Department and Ringwood Recreation are having its 1 st Junior Police Academy, for qualified boys and girls from 6 th , 7 th , and 8 th grades.

This week long program will be held at the E.G. Hewitt School during the week of August 17 , 2015 –

August 21, 2015.

Our objective is a week of education and fun through a Police Academy format. The five day curriculum will include various presentations and training from guest law agencies, hands on practices and physical training to give the students an idea of what training is involved in becoming a Police Officer. An overview of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is also included. In addition, a field trip to the Passaic

County Police Academy, Wayne, NJ and Thunder Mountain Trap and Skeet where students will participate in basic firearms safety and training.

The daily schedule is from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. Students are to be dropped off at the E.G. Hewitt School, no later than 8:00 am. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Please be prompt when dropping off and picking up your children.

It is required that each student bring his or her own lunch for the first four days. Please label lunch containers. Throughout the day, there will be several breaks between blocks of instruction, so several snacks/drinks are recommended. On the fifth day, August 21 st students will be dropped off at the Skyline

Lakes Fire Department for morning training and lunch will be provided.

There will also be a $100.00 fee for each student. The fee will cover miscellaneous expenses for the

Junior Police Academy, Academy shorts, shirts, hat, travel bag, water bottle and the picnic, which will be held on Friday, August 21 st .

A Graduation ceremony will take place on August 21 st at 1:00 pm at Skyline Lakes Fire Department.

Each recruit will receive a certificate upon completion of the week long academy.

Class size is limited to 50. First Come First Serve !!!

Fees for the academy are due once students have been advised of acceptance into the program. The

The undersigned, parent/guardian, a resident of Ringwood has requested the opportunity and privilege to have their son/daughter participate in the Junior Police Academy.

In the consideration of granting said request, the undersigned hereby, RELEASES AND

FOREVER DISCHARGE the Borough of Ringwood the agents and employees thereof,

FROM ALL CLAIMES AND CAUSES OF ACTION THAT THE UNDERSIGNED MAY

HAVE FOR PERSONAL INJURIES, DAMAGES OR LOSSES OF ANY NATURE

WHATSOVER, which may result or occur at any time the child of the undersigned is in or about a police vehicle and/or participating in the functions of the Junior Police Academy.

The undersigned further agrees to have their child obey directives of any such Ringwood Police

Officer while accompanying said officer, and acknowledges that this privilege of accompanying the Ringwood Police can be rescinded at any time during the course of the academy, in the sole and absolute discretion of the police officer.

The undersigned, acknowledges receipt of the orientation materials with specific information regarding the activities that are part of this program. The undersigned has read the document and signs it of his/her free will.

I hereby give permission for my son/daughter age attend the Ringwood Junior Police Academy during the week of August 17-21, 2015.
