Student Learning Outcomes Assessment
Level I Program Assessment 5-year cycle beginning Fall 2013 semester
Program: Respiratory Care
Upon successfully completion of this program students will be able to:
1. Educate patients, family and other healthcare workers about cardiopulmonary health
care.
2. Initiate and manage ventilator care for patients.
3. Work as part of a team with doctors and other healthcare workers to perform procedures,
including emergency responses.
4. Assess patient status and recommend treatments to patient’s physician.
5. Deliver oxygen therapy and other routine treatments.
6. Evaluate and recommend new equipment.
7. Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and codes of conduct.
8. Prioritize and manage their workloads, completing their daily tasks in an efficient and
timely manner.
Assessment Action Items - The following steps must be completed to assess each outcome:
1. Assessment Plan Development and Approval – Develop a plan for assessing one
or more of the above outcomes and submit the plan for approval with the Level I
program review. All outcomes should have assessment plans approved during the
first 3 years of the cycle. It is permissible to group outcomes and assess more than
one outcome by one assessment plan.
2. Data Collection – Collect student work to be reviewed.
3. Analysis of Findings and Identification of Improvement Strategies – Submit a
report which explain the findings of the assessment exercise and provide a plan to
improve any areas of weakness identified.
4. Progress Report on Improvement Strategies – Submit a narrative report
describing the progress made on the improvement strategies identified.
Required Reporting – During the 5 year cycle the following reports are required:
1. Assessment Timetable – Distributed and established with any necessary
revisions by September 15th each year.
2. Plan Development – New plans and modifications must be submitted for
approval by midterm of the semester preceding the first data collection
assessment beginning for the outcome(s). To ensure that all assessment action
items are completed during the 5 year cycle, all plan development reports should
be submitted during the first 3 years of the cycle.
3. Analysis of Findings and Identification of Improvement Strategies – To be
submitted with Level I Program Review each year that this action item is included
in the timeline.
4. Progress Report on Improvement Strategies – To be submitted with Level I
Program Review each year that this action item is included in the timeline.
Report forms for these reports will be posted on the Program Review website and approved
timelines and plans for each program will be posted to this website after they are approved.
