curriculum. We are passionate about broadening the educational experience by
providing an in-depth understanding of the many artistic styles, genres and
methodologies to all of your students.
Our program offers opportunities for learners of all backgrounds to participate in
the creative process, bridge cultural differences, and cultivate fresh ways of seeing
and learning through the arts. Our artistic lessons cultivate the many different
cultural and ethnic values for your students through fun, meaningful and
educational methods.
SD Studios Artist in Residence program integrates art history and criticism with
studio production. We connect personal experiences and contemporary life with
historical periods, and enrich all students in an engaging, hands-on process. We
encompass a broad spectrum of educational teaching tools and artistic techniques
that widen your student's learning experiences.
Exposure to and participation in the arts has been demonstrated to enhance
students' creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, as well as
improve student performance in other core subject areas. Through integrating the
arts, our quality program promotes, strengthens, and enhances schools, with or
without existing arts programs.

Cancellation:
In the case of a cancellation made by the school, SD Studios must be notified at least
24 hours prior to the scheduled date. Otherwise, the school will be charged for that
date of service. If SD Studios needs to cancel due to weather or a sickness, the
school will be called that morning and the session and a makeup session will be
implemented.
Teacher Engagement:
Classroom teachers must be present during all Artists in Residence programming,
although participation from the teacher is voluntary. Prior to the sessions we will
communicate via the school contact person and send curriculum descriptions, and
daily lessons to the participating teachers.
Payment:
Payment is accepted via check, made out to Sandra Dawson.
Prior to an artist's presentation, the artist will supply a voucher with the costs and
class description for the school. Both school and artist will obtain copies of the
voucher.
All outstanding balances must be paid within a two-month period of the
starting date.
Feedback and Evaluation:
Following an artist’s session, teachers will be asked to complete an Artist Visit
Evaluation form. Evaluation of the artist's presentation is extremely important as
artists continue to refine their presentation skills and activities throughout the year.
Cancellations:
Cancellations for the sessions must be made at least two weeks prior to the date of
the session. Schools cancelling within two weeks of the scheduled engagement will
be required to pay a 30% cancellation fee. In the event of a cancellation due to
circumstances beyond the school’s control (i.e.: school closure due to a snow day,
power outage, etc.), it is the school's responsibility to contact the artist right away to
notify them of the cancellation. Failure to do so will result in compensating the artist
in full. Schools that are able to notify the artist of the cancellation in a timely manner
will not be held responsible for payment, although they are encouraged to
reschedule the artist for another date. If the artist must cancel due to illness or
personal emergency, they are required to notify the school as soon as possible and
will make up the session.
