HOME: as art and articulation
For November we’ve asked you to consider the idea
of homes and housing from a number of perspectives. Two very successful workshops were held recently,
inviting budding artists to decorate miniature homes. One more remains: this Sunday at Woods Street Art
Space. RSVP to arts@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au and become involved in this Melbourne-wide public art
project. More information is on our website.
As well as imagining homes as part of an art project, you may want to imagine homes as part of
Hobsons Bay’s future. We want to hear your housing needs by completing our short online survey at
participate.hobsonsbay.vic. gov.au/housing. The closing date for submissions to our Housing Strategy is 5
December 2014. Alternatively, pick up a hard copy of the housing needs survey from the Hobsons Bay
Civic Centre or
a Hobsons Bay library. All completed surveys will
be entered into a prize draw to win one of three
$100 gift vouchers.
International Day
of People with Disability
While 3 December is officially the International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD), the entire week
will see a raft of entertaining and awareness-raising activities.
Things go off with a bang with the Out of the Woods performance group presenting Bangers & Mash-
ups, a free dance party on Monday 1 December. The event takes place at the Laverton Community
Hub between 11am and 1pm and you can RSVP at LavertonCommunityHub@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.
Prefer drama to dancing? There’s a film screening at Altona North Library at 11.30am on Tuesday. If
you want something more active, there’s a Disability Sport and Recreation Festival at Federation Square
on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, there’s a special Story Time at Altona Library. The event begins at
10.30am and bookings aren’t required. Finally, a blind football exhibition, coordinated by Blind Sports
Victoria, takes place on Sunday 7 December. The match headlines the half time entertainment for the
Melbourne City vs Brisbane Roar match at AAMI Park.
IDPwD aims to promote an understanding of people with disability. It encourages support for their
dignity, rights, wellbeing and the benefits to the community from the integration of people with
disability in every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life.
Draft Early Education
and Care public policy
Hobsons Bay City Council is seeking submissions from the community about the draft Early Education
and Care Public Policy. The intent of the policy is to stand as a broad overarching document which
outlines the guiding principles that will inform future service planning.
Copies of the policy and associated documents are available online at
www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay. Hard copy documents may also be collected from the Libraries
and Hobsons Bay Civic Centre. Submissions are open until 5pm Friday
19 December 2014.
