HIV/AIDS Harm Reduction Outreach Educator
1 FTE - Full Time, starting date March 2012
CTCHC is a non-profit, community-based health organization committed to improving the health
of community members, particularly those at risk for poverty and discrimination. Our multidisciplinary approach includes the provision of primary health/dental care, counselling, harm
reduction, community development, advocacy, and innovative partnerships with other
organizations. CTCHC is a leader in the development of inner-city health services and focuses
on the needs of homeless and street involved youth, adults, and families in the local area.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Implements and maintains strategies to reduce transmission of HIV/AIDS primarily
amongst homeless drug users, street involved youth and sex trade workers

Recruits, hires, trains and supervises Peer Outreach Workers

Provides Harm Reduction services and client support, including the distribution of
Needles and Safer Crack Kits, as well as information, informal counselling, referrals and
advocacy

Provides educational workshops to service users and providers on HIV/AIDS and Harm
Reduction Issues

Provide anonymous HIV screening, testing and counselling
QUALIFICATIONS

Substantial knowledge and experience of drug use, harm reduction and HIV/AIDS
prevention

Well developed skills in street outreach, counselling, advocacy and community work

Experience in workshop design and facilitation

Experience working with marginalized communities such as homeless/underhoused
people, street-involved youth, psychiatric consumer/survivors, sex trade workers, crack
and ID drug users

Experience supervising Peers, volunteers, and students

Experience with project coordination, funding proposals, budgeting and evaluation

Excellent communication, conflict resolution skills and organizational skills

Post-secondary education and/or equivalent experience and training
Salary range: $44,516 - $53,633
