Dear Evaluation Team,
E-Z Go Taxi Cab Service provides the local community with a punctual and reliable taxi service. In order
to maintain the reliability of our services, we need our vehicles to start and operate in all types of
weather. Extreme weather places an extraordinary challenge on our vehicle’s batteries. When the
weather is hot, the vehicle’s air conditioning system places a large load on the electrical system. At the
other end of the temperature scale, very cold weather makes it harder for the battery to start the
vehicle.
The current batteries on our vehicles are more than three years old and we want to replace them before
they fail and leave a vehicle stranded. We want to make sure that our vehicles are always ready to go.
The battery’s service life is a measure of how many charge-discharge cycles the battery can handle (at
conditions simulating hot climates and the engine’s operating temperature). The battery’s reserve
capacity measures how long the battery will continue to supply power if the charging system fails and its
cold-cranking amps (CCA) indicates how much current is available at 0°F.
We need a procedure for comparing four different car batteries based on the parameters shown in the
table. Please provide your recommendation for ranking the four batteries that will guide us in choosing
the best one for our fleet and also help us select batteries in the future.
We want to select a battery that will result in the best value in terms of the factors in the data provided.
Please provide your recommendations in a letter that includes a detailed description of the process used
to arrive at your recommendations. This description must indicate the weight you assigned each factor
considered and why; it must also include all your calculations.
Sincerely,
Wayne Bruce,
Fleet Manager
