IWB Lesson Introduction This article is about how different technologies, including interactive whiteboards have been introduced and used at a private university in teacher preparation courses. The authors have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each tool for the students and staff and also how these technologies can be user friendly for learners with different abilities in technologies. The article by Blue and Tirotta conclusions about IWB was that they are a “viable alternative to online virtual technologies” (Blue, E., & Tirotta, R., 2011, p. 31). This video with the help of Mr. Furry Fur Fur, a raccoon, explains what recycling is and what sort of materials can be recycled. This movie is intended for preschool children but it is also very suitable for prep/grade one students as well as it is aimed to provoke ideas of recycling and what you can do about it at home. By showing this video first within my lesson it engages the children to explore their ideas of recycling as it introducing children to the notion of recycling. (Approximately 4 minutes) The students will then complete a class brainstorm on the board, run by the teacher, running for approximately 5-10 minutes. The students will be asked to brainstorm what materials they think goes into a green lid bin and what materials go into a yellow lid bin, under the different headings of green lid bin and yellow lid bin. (Approximately 5-10 minutes) As a class the students will be presented with a range of images that can go into the yellow lid bin and some images of materials that cannot. This activity will be a drag and drop activity and will run for approximately 10 minutes or until all images are placed within their correct categories. Once again run by the teacher however students will be able to come up to the board and drag what materials they think go into the yellow bin lid by dragging the image into the yellow bin lid picture or what does not go into the yellow lid bin by dragging the image into the red cross picture. (Approximately 10 minutes) As a class again the students will be presented with a range of images however this time it will be images that can go into the green lid bin and some images of material that cannot. This activity will be a drag and drop activity and will run for approximately 10 minutes or until all images are placed within their correct categories. Once again run by the teacher however students will be able to come up to the board and drag what materials they think go into the green bin lid by dragging the image into the green bin lid picture or what does not go into the green lid bin by dragging the image into the red cross picture. (Approximately 10 minutes) A short story called ‘What does it mean to be green’ by Rana Diorio, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyNPa37G_2s) YouTube video clip will then be shown to break up the lesson. (Approximately 2 minutes) Student will then be shown a YouTube video clip song on the 3R’s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8BwXp7ICs0). Students will then be given time (Approximately 2 minutes) to find a musical instrument. The lyric to this song will then be displayed on the screen and with the YouTube video still running in the background students will be then able to sing along to the song also playing their instruments.
