Jakarta, Indonesia, 13 April 2015 – The top players of the philanthropic world in Indonesia gathered on Monday to discuss actions to combat poverty and promote sustainable development goals with the United Nations and the Government of Indonesia. Coordinating
Minister for Human Development and Culture, Puan Maharani opened the “Post-2015
Partnership Platform for Philanthropy ” gathering in Jakarta.
More than one billion people have been lifted out of extreme poverty during the period of the
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which end this year.
Looking forward, the Post-2015
Partnership Platform for Philanthropy is a project of the United Nations Development
Programme, Foundation Center, and a group of leading foundations guided by Rockefeller
Philanthropy Advisors, that aims to assist philanthropists in playing a more active role in the planning and implementation of the global Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Maharani welcomed the launching of the Platform, adding that the spirit of the philanthropy platform is already embedded in the Indonesian society.
“The Indonesian people believe in working together to achieve a common goal, as we call it
‘ Gotong Royong .
’ Being a philanthropist is more than just about giving back to society; it is about working together to support people to stand on their own feet, particularly the most disadvantaged,” said Maharani. “Philanthropists are a great asset to the country, and it’s time for us to have a unified platform that allows us to work together to support our fellow citizens in this vast country,” added Maharani.
Indonesia, along with Colombia, Ghana, and Kenya, was selected as one of the key countries of focus for the Post-2015 Partnership Platform, which was launched in November of last year.
Indonesia has a fastgrowing economy that is set to become one of the world’s largest by 2030.
Yet, despite strong economic growth in recent years, more than 28 million Indonesians are living below the national poverty line, and the gap between rich and poor has widened.
“For Indonesia to excel and successfully come out of its middle-income status, it must ensure that growth is inclusive in a way that benefits all of its citizens, including the country’s poorest and most marginalized. We strongly believe that leading philanthropists and foundations have

the expertise and knowledge to ensure Indonesia improves the lives of its over 250 million citizens ,” said Douglas Broderick, Resident Coordinator of the UN system in Indonesia.
“The UN is welcoming partnerships to play an even more vital role in achieving the new
Sustainable Development Goals than they were for the MDGs, ” Broderick added.
To encourage knowledge exchange globally, the Platform initiative will deliver a web portal,
SDGfunders.org
that will make data on philanthropic investments freely available and serve as a worldwide hub for sharing case studies and online discussions.
"The Platform supplies the framework for successful collaboration among foundations, NGOs, and governments," said Bradford K. Smith, president of Foundation Center. "Good information and open communication will be a key ingredient if the partners are to make meaningful progress on the wide variety of goals outlined by the SDGs .”
The Post-2015 Partnership Platform for Philanthropy receives guidance and input from leaders of philanthropic foundations comprising a Collaboration Committee, which currently includes the
Conrad N. Hilton, Ford, and MasterCard Foundations.
