Recycling Batteries:
Recycle with Interstate All Battery Centers!
The Interstate All Battery Centers in our area will be partnering with us in
collecting all types of rechargeable used batteries that need to be recycled.
Starting on Earth Day, Friday, April 22nd, students and their families can place
their used batteries in specially marked containers on their campuses. The
Interstate All Battery Centers will collect, weigh, and recycle all of the batteries
from each campus.
The recycling drive will run for one month; On Friday, May 27th, the school that
recycled the most batteries will be named the Greenest school in Northwest ISD!
The types of batteries that can be recycled are:






Nickel-based Batteries that are found in most cordless phone ,digital cameras and
power tools
Lithium based batteries that are found in most consumer electronics such as cell
phones and laptop computers
Sealed Lead based batteries that are found in your alarm systems, deer feeders, power
wheels cars, UPS systems, and battery controlled gate systems
Instructions for Recycling:
Tape all contacts of your used rechargeable batteries
With contacts taped, insert the used rechargeable batteries into a plastic Ziploc bag and
seal the bag closed
Insert the sealed bag into the appropriately labeled recycling bin.
Please join us in being GREEN this Earth Day season and bring your
used batteries to the drop off station! We will hold a celebration on the
last day of the drive at a select few campuses to create more
excitement around our schools becoming GREEN!

If we recycle batteries correctly, batteries have the power to be
the Earth’s best friend.
Did you know that nickel-based (cell phone, camera, and power tool) batteries should never be
thrown in the trash?! They are a household hazordous waste and can leak harmful chemicals.If
they are recycled properly, materials are reused in new batteries and stainless steel products.
