ensure that they have their cap, gown, stole and tassel before they leave for the day. Balfour will be
on hand to fix any problems. Seniors are expected to wear their caps/gowns at the Senior Awards
assembly on Monday, June 8th.
Cap and Gown Care
Please remember to take your graduation apparel home. Store your gown and stole on a hanger. Do
not leave it crumpled up in your locker or in the trunk of your car. CAUTION: The gowns are made of
polyester and great care should be taken if you attempt to iron it to remove any wrinkles. The material
will scorch easily.

Graduation Ceremony
Start time 8:00 am
Arrival Time- 6:30 am- Report to your Senior Homeroom
Woodgrove High School’s graduation ceremony is a dignified celebration of the accomplishments of
the entire senior class. Consequently, for each individual graduate, participation in the ceremony is a
privilege and carries significant responsibility. Each graduate is expected to represent their family,
school, and community in a truly Wolverine manner.
The ceremony will be held outside in the stadium if weather permits. In the unfortunate event of
inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the main gymnasium. Should the ceremony take
place indoors, tickets are necessary. Students will be issued 10 tickets (four white-allow
entrance into the main gym, six green allow entrance into the auditorium). These tickets will
be distributed on June 8th-during senior luncheon- no sooner.
Please remind your guests that this is a formal ceremony and that appropriate dress and personal
conduct are required of everyone choosing to attend. If, due to a disability, you and/or your guests
need assistance to enable you and/or your guests to attend Woodgrove High School’s
graduation ceremony, please contact Mrs. Hines at kelley.hines@lcps.org or 540-751-2600 at
least FIVE WORKING DAYS prior to the event. For any one person in need of special seating,
two additional tickets to the same seating area will be provided.
Appropriate Dress- Your caps and gowns are navy blue with kelly green trim on the sleeve.
Your stole is kelly green.
Men should wear a white dress shirt, tie, dress pants, dark socks, and dark dress shoes. No shorts
allowed.
Women should wear dress attire (white is traditional but not required) and dress shoes. Be careful
that your dress is not longer than your graduation gown. We will be walking quite a distance to the
stadium from the school and down the track. During the ceremony, you will walk across the astro turf
field to the stage to receive your diplomas. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you wear a
lower heeled shoe, as high heels will be difficult to walk in gracefully and may get caught in the turf
field.
Tassels are worn on the right side of the cap during the ceremony. Caps must be positioned correctly
and securely on your head so style your hair appropriately. DO NOT WRITE OR TAPE ANYTHING
ON THE TOP OF YOUR CAP – IT IS A MORTAR BOARD, NOT A BILLBOARD. Absolutely no
jewelry, flowers, or other adornments of any sort may be worn or attached in any way to your cap,
gown or stole. Pins that have been awarded to you through participation in athletics and extracurricular activities may be worn on your stole.
Those seniors who earn a 3.75 GPA or higher will be given an honor graduate stole at cap/gown
distribution on June 4th.
