Southern Society – Abolitionist Cereal Box Biography
DIRECTIONS: Choose a significant abolitionist from the list above. Create a cereal box that
demonstrates your knowledge of that person’s life, work, and contributions to their community
and the world.
Cover the box with unlined paper to post the following:
ON THE FRONT OF THE BOX
► Display a COLOR picture of the person (This picture may be hand drawn or cut and pasted)
► Clearly display a name for the cereal
- The name of the cereal should reflect the person and/or the time period of the person
ON THE SIDE(S) OF THE BOX
► Include “nutritional” information
- this should consist of biographical information (birth, death, hometown, etc.) as well as
fast and interesting facts about your abolitionist
► Include a special offer (toy, prize, game, etc.) that corresponds to your person or time period
ON THE BACK OF THE BOX
► Write a short biography of the person:
1) Who are they? Any background information that did not coincide with “nutritional”
information
2) How did they contribute to the abolitionist movement?
3) Short term and long term impact of their contributions.
4) What was significant about their lifetime? (Why is this person important?!)
This information MUST be in your own words!
► Incorporate designs or artwork to your biography to emphasize your information and make
your cereal box more attractive (maps, historical images, etc.)
