ROTARY SCREEN COATING WITH GEON™ RESINS
Rotary screen-printing is a method for coating plastisol on fabric, paper, and non-wovens. In rotary
screening, the doctor blade is mounted in the interior of a cylindrical screen, through which the
plastisol is extruded onto the substrate. The lack of stress on the substrate, the degree of control
over penetration into the subsrate, the ability to coat on an uneven surface, and the possibilities for
making discontinuous coatings makes this a unique application technique.
A wide variety of Geon Vinyl resins are used in this technology. Lo-Sope resins, which have the
required rheological behavior are available in a range of molecular weights. Foam printing can be
done on the rotary screen. Geon Vinyl foam resins are available in different molecular weights, and
with rheologies suitable for thin or thick coatings.
Typical applications for rotary screen coating with plastisols are:
-
Thin coating on paper
"Spanished" artificial leather
Fabric coating
Printed foam

"Spanished" Artificial Leather
Formulation A was coated onto an embossed release paper at 14 ft/min using a blade length
of 25.4mm. A film thickness of 2.2mm resulted. Formulation B was then coated upon film A
at 14 ft/min. The combined thickness of the two coatings was 5.5 mil. A standard Stork 60mesh screen was used for both coatings.
