---------------------------------------------------Recycling: It has been reported that some members of staff are leaving boxes and recycling goods in the
corridors by the lifts which could be a fire hazard. Could we ask that staff do not leave empty boxes in
these areas. The cleaning staff have confirmed that there are two recycling pick ups per week. These are
Monday (floors 9-6) and Thursday (floors 5-1). This maybe useful for staff to note if they are collecting
boxes and recycled goods.

School Contribution to Spectacles: The School of Medicine Finance Office has recently had numerous
queries about the £50 School contribution with regards to paying for spectacles. The School has asked that
the information below is distributed to all staff.
Under Health and Safety legislation, Cardiff University (the employer) is required to provide members of
staff who are "users" of display screen equipment (DSE) with an eye and eyesight test. Please note that
this is only applicable to contracted staff members and not students or visiting academics. Users of DSE
should receive ongoing regular re-testing every 2 years, or sooner when recommended by an Optometrist.
Eyesight tests should be carried out by the School of Optometry. Approval for eye and eyesight tests must
be obtained in advance from either the Head of School or Directorate, or other appropriate authorised
person. You will need to obtain a Purchase Order number from the School Finance Office prior to visiting
Optometry in order to obtain your eye test.
With effect from 1st January 2009, Cardiff University will contribute a maximum of £50 towards the cost of
corrective appliances (e.g. spectacles / contact lenses), if they are required for use specifically with DSE at
work. In general, if spectacles and lenses worn by the DSE user are required for both general use and DSE
use, a contribution CANNOT be made as this would give rise to a taxable benefit. Please contact the eye
clinic in the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences for more detailed information.

not be able to be completed at this time.

As previously advised, and due to limited user demand, DeltaGraph will be withdrawn as a centrallyprovided application on both the Windows and Mac platforms as from 1st July. (Individual Schools of
course may have already decided to purchase a license and continue to provide this application for their
own users.)
From this date, all existing copies that have been purchased or provided under the terms of the University's
license must be destroyed as a condition of that license.
A command will be force-run on 1st July to forcibly remove Deltagraph from Windows "imaged" machines.
This command will remove the C:\Program Files\Deltagraph 5 folder, as such existing users should be
alerted to this removal as the folder may well contain data files they wish to save and retain.
7
Department of Primary Care and Public Health
Existing Mac users will find that they will be unable to use the software from this date as INSRV will no
longer be providing the essential license update installer.
